Guest guest
I'm curious to hear experiences any of you might have had with having an alternative medicine clinic in a medical office building. I'm not so concerned about being in with medical doctors (who are in completely separate offices, but the logistics of the clinic/building itself). It seems the primary concern would be that there is no storefront or drive-by recognition. Has anyone out there worked in this type of building before? Thanks in advance! Guest guest
Having tried this (working in a medical office building) many years ago, I'll say, in a word; no moxa, gotta go. . . most medical office buildings will not allow moxabustion. Guest guest
I've used liquid moxa for years, so smokey moxa has never been in my practice. So, without moxibustion as an issue, would you say it would've been an okay experience? _____ Chinese Medicine Chinese Medicine On Behalf Of Z'ev Rosenberg Monday, March 12, 2007 6:00 PM Chinese Medicine Re: Medical Office Building?? Guest guest
It will really depend on the practitioner and their specialties. I wasn't too keen on my own experiences, especially since the medical clinics I've worked in had no open windows and had florescent lighting. Atmosphere and environment is very important to me in order to do effective work. Guest guest
FYI. I am at the end of the 4th year in the same office building. Smoking moxa is a problem, but I have since replaced it with liquid. There is no " storefront " signs at all. You will have to count 100% on other ways to get your patients. Guest guest
I have never used liquid moxa, do you find it as effective as the smoke style application? I have used a liniment and then an infra-red lamp over the area which i have found to work rather well, but one has to be careful with sensitive skin. Guest guest
Barbara: I went in with an OBGYN last year (for 2 days, mostly the evenings). It really got my practice going. People who had seen my name for years, in the newspaper or heard about me in the community finally got the trust to come to acupuncture. He (the doc) didn't know anything about it, but his philosophy was if it works try it. I eventually couldn't take the atomosphere anymore, too noisy, when they left the cleaning crew came in, no windows (in one room of my wellenss center there are no windows but the environment is so pretty it doesn't matter.) The doc still refers to me, but it would happen more if I was up there talking to the staff. In your medical building, it may build credibility, but I would go around and introduce yourself to the staff in those offices. I also had brochures and copies of articles I wrote in the office - you can talk to the docs and staff about that. Guest guest
If you could bear a little something off topic of TCM to note. A realtor here in Nashville, TN. mentioned a " kickback clause " when leasing commercial space, usually on a 3 or 5 yr. lease contract. On a 3 yr. lease with " kickback clause " , I was told you could move out and void the 3rd yr. by giving the lessor a 90 day notice, & pay 2 or 3 months to boot. On a 5 yr. lease " kickback clause " , I believe one must stay 3 yrs, then the remaining 2 are nulled. May vary in different states though.
