Guest guest
Dear friends, colleagues and teachers, I wanted to revisit with you a therapy that I written about in the past, and have used before successfully. This morning a patient with long standing Hepatitis C (40 years), came into my office for treatment (she suspects that as a young girl she became infected by a transfusion at age 12. She is now 55). She has had elevated liver enzymes, and recently has had an exascerbation of purpura and petechia, which are very painful on her legs. Her Kd Yang pulse was choppy, but generally her other pulses were slippery, thready and wiry. Her tongue was short, pale with a thin white coat, and the sides a little more pale. There is a concept in Jewish tradition called " Segula. " Literally translated as " a treasure " , a segula is a cure which defies logic, which has been handed down through oral transmission from generation to generation, and which clearly works! A Jewish scholarly text (Rabenu Bachaye al HaTorah) brings down, for example, that when the Jews reached Mara, (the place of bitter waters, shortly after crossing the Red Sea, and before reaching Mount Sinai) Ha-Shem taught and tested Moses on the healing properties of plants, both their natural medicinal properties as well as their " segula " properties, which defied logic. A famous Segula which is brought down in the holy book, " Ta'amei Minhagim U'Mekorei Dinim " , is the cure for Hepatitis. The procedure is brought down as follows: " One takes a male dove or pigeon for a man with Hepatitis and a female dove or pigeon for a woman with Hepatitis and places the anus of the dove firmly upon the umbilicus of the sick person, and the person will recover. " The first time I saw it done was on my wife and myself when we each came down with Hepatitis A upon returning from Israel in 1982. Immediately upon having the first dove placed upon my umbilicus, I felt a suction, and the dove started rhythmically pulsating. Then it died. My complexion immediately changed from yellow to pink, and I felt stronger. After 7 doves had died, it stopped working. Yet when we changed doves, it worked again, and we later realized that when it hadn't worked, we had mistakenly used a female! All told 11 doves died on me and 7 died on my wife. Two months later I was able to drink 4 glasses of wine on Passover, and my liver had completely recovered. An interesting footnote, is that doves used in this segula were autopsied at Hadassah hospital in Jerusalem, and it was determined that the cause of death was asphyxiation (choking) rather than hepatitis! Though I had treated multiple patients suffering from Hep A, this was my first case of Hep C. I integrated acupuncture into the treatment and needled LI 4, LV3 and GB34 bilaterally. The pattern though was the same: 10 doves over 3 hours, died during the treatment and her scleral and facial color changed quite dramatically from pale with a yellowish tinge, to reddish pink. The last dove took much longer than the others to die. She is going to have liver function tests done and I will report back to you with results. Guest guest
Truly, no offence taken! BTW, I forgot to point out one other interesting note: after the treatment was completed, the Yang pulse was no longer choppy, none of the pulses were wiry and on both the right and left wrists, the pulses were slippery and thready. Guest guest
You know, when I first heard this, it sounded strange too, then I remembered that the Chinese and other traditions have used bees stingers, leaches and get this one, the urine of stink beetles to stop children from bedwetting (word of mouth- passed down from a Dine, " Navajo " healer) too. You put a stink beetle in a spoon with water and wait until it urinates into the spoon. Between using snakes, scorpions, spiders, wasps, bat and flying squirrel feces and the urine of one year old baby boys, this has been going on since medicine began.?! Question: What is the significance of using the navel (Ren 8) as the point of entry? I've heard of putting cold (herbal moxa) and ginger/garlic/salt/fu zi direct moxa on the navel also. Do the active chemicals go into the blood stream or the digestive system faster or do they bypass the liver etc. ? Thanks. k. Guest guest
Yehuda, That is, as others have verbalised, just amazing. I am reminded of reading of the use of snails that were placed on the stomach and then macerated and fed to the patient for Kidney Qi Xu (ben) and Sp Yang Xu (biao). We have to remember that to us using " herbs " like earthworm and scorpion, never mind animal feces to the common ear sounds no less bizarre (though a step less perhaps?) as the treatment you mentioned. What i would like to know is, how did you have the doves available? Do you keep them in the back just in case? I do mean that in jest, this patient must have visited you on several occasions? Also, do you suppose this treatment could then be used for any liver dysfunction, at least theoretically? Just how interesting (traditional) medicine is... Guest guest
Dear Pete, They are very gentle creatures, but to work, it needs to be held firmly and there has to be a stable connection, upon which the bird will start moving its head rhythmically forward, its beak opening as if it's gasping for air. If you are holding it in the wrong place, no matter how firmly you hold down the dove, it'll just look around, nothing will happen, and you may come to the mistaken assumption that it's ineffectual. I've heard of putting cold (herbal moxa) and ginger/garlic/ salt/fu zi direct moxa on the navel also. Do the active chemicals go into the blood stream or the digestive system faster or do they bypass the liver etc. ? Thanks. k. I can give you three possible answers: 1. It is the Dan Tian, 2. The umbilicus represents the place through which a fetus receives nourishment. I would suggest that it is indeed a significant energetic, even life giving point of entry. I have even considered the hypothesis, that rather than having the birds taking out the poison, instead, they are giving the sick person their life force. 3. It is a segula, and as I mentioned, originally, the essence of a segula is beyond human comprehension Yehuda <johnkokko wrote: You know, when I first heard this, it sounded strange too, then I remembered that the Chinese and other traditions have used bees stingers, leaches and get this one, the urine of stink beetles to stop children from bedwetting (word of mouth- passed down from a Dine, " Navajo " healer) too. Guest guest
I sent my patient to a certain pet store I am familiar with in LA where I know that they know how to differentiate between male and female birds. I told her to get 10-12, based upon the seriousness of the case and my experience. This is the first and only time I have seen her. As to whether it could be used for any liver disorder, I can't definitively answer that question, but intuitively, I would say yes. The yiddish and hebrew terms that are used seem to imply that the key is a yellow tinged skin/sclera presentation. miracles28 <jellyphish wrote: Yehuda, That is, as others have verbalised, just amazing. Guest guest
Good question, and definitely happens. I hadn't considered the possible danger involved and can only relate that though only anecdotal, I have never heard of nor seen any complications or sequella resulting from the treatment. Personally, after treatment, I clean the area with alcohol, but perhaps it might also be an idea (if not contraindicated by the pattern) to moxa Ren 8 at the end of the treatment <johnkokko wrote: Yehuda, I'm just wondering if there's any danger of a pigeon defecating into the navel? Guest guest
Hi Yehuda... Although all three options you present seem to be on the money, your second option sounds especially compelling to me. When I read your case history, I was most surprised when you described that the birds died. There is obviously a very strong exchange of energy happening, and it makes sense too, since the anus is the output (as we all know we lose our Righteous Qi via diarrhea and feel shaky and exhausted, and otherwise if the LI has poor tone, we leak Qi from the anus) and the umbilicus is the input...the birds were dx to have died from asphyxiation, they gasp for air during the process, and we know in CM that Lung and Large Intestine are coupled organs...so there are a lot of ways to make some sense from this. Thanks again for sharing, Hugo I can give you three possible answers: 1. 3. It is a segula, and as I mentioned, originally, the essence of a segula is beyond human comprehension Yehuda
