Guest guest
I'm starting a new patient, 69yf presenting with 15-20y onset of a constant head shaking and an intension tremor in the right arm affecting writing, seems to be worse with caffeine (0-1 cups of coffee/tea daily). west dx of dystonia. doctors have recently suggested botox injections, she doesn't want to go this route, largely due to $1000 Out of Pkt exp. for a tx that will last about 6mo. pattern is liv/kid yin xu. other s/s include malar flush, mild hotflashes, hypertension: 147/95 in my office (meds10y: taking a diuretic and teninol, she thinks it may be a beta blocker), SOB on exertion. low exercise: walk 1/2 mile 2x week. T: purple, scallops/swollen with greasy yel C rear. P: weak/tardy, K yg short/hidden. she drives cars several days a week for a 9h duration. eye strain due to driving, neck/shoulder tension. 4 preg, 2 live births. one child was " congenital malformed - died " , 18-24h labor. 2nd child was 5lb 9oz after a 3-4 hr labor. balance diet, toast only for bfast. my dx is tremour due to liv w stiring due to kid yin xu. clearly there are other presenting patterns, which i will also address with acu/herbal therapy. planning on scalp acu following CMX guidelines and what basics i've learned of Dr. Zhu's techniques from other LAc's. my question is about any specific herbs/acu or other tx suggestions you might have to address the head shaking and essential tremor in the R arm. i'm not finding much literature on TCM tx of tremors, basically 3 patterns: ph/h, liv/kid yin xu & qi xue xu. this patient is clearly liv/kid yin xu. i find more on Parkinson's tx and am thinking i could follow those protocols for patterns. i appreciate your suggestions on tx tremors. kath -- Kath Bartlett, LAc, MS, BA UCLA Oriental Medicine Experienced, Dedicated, Effective Asheville Center For 70 Woodfin Place, Suite West Wing Two Asheville, NC 28801 828.258.2777 kbartlett www.AcupunctureAsheville.com
