getting rid of demons

Well it may be more socially acceptable to sugar coat the idea that

people dont' actually get taken over by demons etc. but actually some

people seem to be. Having participated in many healing rituals in

different cultures while learning shamanic healing it sure looks like

some people do get taken over by something outside themselves that

certainly doesn't have their well being in mind. I don't discuss this

aspect with every client but it does come up and I do talk about how

some cultures see these demons etc. I've seen some pretty scientific

oriented people be completely freaked out during shamanic healing

rituals when

things get a little weird and even more upset when the patient gets

healed.

They have a hard time finding a place in what they think they know for

these experiences. I'm just saying keep an open mind about possession

and what it may or may not be. It is a part of early Chinese healing

and some forms of acupuncture wheather we chose to believe it or not.

This discussion is interesting, and I agree that demonology in

ancient Chinese medicine is worth a good, long investigation. For

me, the only conflict is whether we see demonic forces as external

entities or internal products of one's mind. But this discussion is

completely speculative, because no one has given the original

explanation from a Chinese language source. What character is being

used for 'demons'? What classical text is the source for these

ideas? If it is an original idea of Jack Worsley, why isn't that

stated outright? How can we have any intellectual integrity in this

field if we cannot even source our ideas, and simply accept anything

that is proposed as a truth?

Like I said, the phenomena and the literature don't support the idea that

" demons " (whatever " they " are) are simply psychological constructs. I personally

get stuck on the idea of Qi, since it is " something " incontrevertible for us in

our personal experience with acupuncture. The people who are relevant to this

discussion that I have either treated, or whose company I have been in during

their healing, show massive Qi movements which I find difficult to explain based

on a physiological or psychological model. That may or may not be due to my

ignorance of both. However, the problem remains that modern psychology does

_not_ provide a framework for this area of the phenomena. For an interesting

western resource, see the very courageous book " People of the Lie " by M. Scott

Peck (same guy as " The Road Less Travelled " , and if you're going to get People

of the Lie, make sure you read Road first).
