Guest guest
does anyone have advice on getting 2 yr olds to drink herbs? I used a granule tea of Yin Qiao, but after a sip I was handed back the cup. I am hesitant to add brown sugar or honey, but perhaps this is a case of necessecity. 101 fever... thank you sami
Guest guest
Try to dilute it with some juice. You might get them to take a lot but anything is better then nothing. Also have them consume it throughout the day. Or hide it in something that they eat. Mike W. Guest guest
Hi, I am a veterinarian that practice TCVM using acupuncture & herbs. In many of my cases I am facing this type of problems. I have different solutions for you: suppository, and in the future when you'll set up w/pharmacies that are ready to go the extra mile - trans dermal TCM herbal preparations. Sagiv. Guest guest
Also consider using a drop of stevia, which really goes well generally with bitter decoctions mike Bowser <naturaldoc1 wrote: Try to dilute it with some juice. Guest guest
I found grape juice to work the best. Dilute the herb first and for goodness sake don't let them see you put it in the juice. Guest guest
This isn't TCM but....... when my kids were little and sick, and wouldn't take herbs, that's when I discovered the benefits of aromatherapy. Lukewarm water with a few drops of lavender essential oil makes a great sponge bath. It calms the child and will help bring down the fever. I didn't know TCM back then (my kids are all adults now), but if I was treating a child today with aromatherapy, I'd apply the appropriate oil to the appropriate acupuncture points. Just be sure to dilute it well. A small bottle of essential is made from pounds and pounds of plant matter and little children are very sensitive. Then, you can apply a drop or two of the dilution to the acupuncture point. Jeffrey Yuen teaches this which is where I got the idea. Good luck with your little one, Sami. Guest guest
Hello Sami My experience with my son (3 in March): 1) He prefers a dropper to a cup or spoon. I think he just finds it to be more fun or unique. 2) Often times he will just eat a pian/wan. It's quite amazing, he'll just chew it up and swallow it. Then I just follow it up with warm fluid and a belly massage. 3) I offer to take some myself 4) Often times needles or guasha or tuina work better. Good luck, David M. Lesseps (3rd year student at ACTCM) p.s. as an aside. The other day, I was treating a 14yr old who's mother is a LAc. When I was alone with him during the intake, I asked him what I should do as a parent to help my son like . He quickly answered -- " Don't talk about it too much, my mom always talks about it! " I loved the advice and he quickly started to trust me because I asked for his input. On Jan 31, 2007, at 9:07 AM, Sami Rank LAc wrote: > does anyone have advice on getting 2 yr olds to drink herbs? According to Jeffery Yuen, getting the taste and smell can give the essential treatment, even if the child then refuses, even spits/vomits it out. Especially for wei-layer treatment, where excitation of the senses, reflexive nervous system is part of the application. Jeffrey has created a CCM (classical Chinese medicine) system of using essential oils, particularly useful for children. He has aligned the oils with Chinese classical parameters, and the blending of them with classical formula principles. Several publically available audio tapes or CD/DVDs are available of his lectures on this topic. (See ConferenceRecording.com). I think he did this topic at a Pacific Symposium in the last few years, among other places. -- Version: 7.5.432 / Virus Database: 268.17.12/654 - Release 1/27/2007 5:02 PM
