Guest guest
There will be Japanese acupuncture seminar by Ikeda Masakazu sensei in Sacramento on March 16,17 and 18. This year the seminar will cover the relationship between acupuncture treatment patterns and herbal treatment patterns, and treatment of women's health problems. You may be surprised to see how tiny needles ( 0.14 mm #0) are effective without deep insertions and how many techniques he uses. You may learn how to use direct moxibustions and kyu tou shhin (needle head moxa). I want to notify this seminar to the members of TCM group, especially, those who have just started his/her own practice and feel as if you are walking in the dark without any light. It was me who felt that way several years ago. After I got my California license, I was a lucky to find some place to work but I had no confidence at all and had sweat on my palms every time I heard " ouch! " from my poor patients. Everyday I felt rather guilty than happy to see my patient's satisfied smiling face. Then I happened to attend Ikeda sensei's seminar in Hawaii. It was amazing to see his treatment. He used very thin needles (0.14 mm diameter size #0 in Seirin) and insert needles very shallowly (less than 1~2 mm) so that all needles laid flat on the body, but still I could see some redness around the needles and patient's skin turned lustrous. Also his movements are very smooth and elegant that it resembles some gentle martial art movement. In theory, Keiraku chiryo (Meridian Therapy) is not pieces of methods to treat particular condition but a system that you can apply to any patient from any level. I, after learned and observed how he treated children, could treat a 3 months old baby who had constipation for 5 days. She had huge(according her mom)one 1 hour after the treatment. Ikeda sensei always mentions what he does is not his own idea but wisdom from traditional line of acupuncturists is behind it. I think this is a very important part for us acupuncture students (even we graduated from school years ago, we are still learning every day, aren't we?) There is some accumulating wisdom of acupuncture and we are here to pass them on to the next generation. It is also very important that we have good skills to perform acupuncture. When you see his treatment, you will be ashamed to have said " No pain, no gain " to your patients. The translator will be Edward Obaidey sensei who has been one of his top students for more than 16 years and has busy clinic in Tokyo.
