Guest guest
Hi Z'ev, About a year and a half ago, I met a gentleman who was just starting a business selling the most amazingly beautiful, artisan-quality Japanese acupuncture tools and needles. I just sent him an email to ask if he has gold needles available. I'll keep you posted.

IMO, that is unacceptable practice today, as explained in earlier mails. Best regards,
Guest guest
traditionally, gold is used for tonification, and silver for sedation. some practitioners like to needle the so called 'beautiful baby point' (k9) with a gold needle, and then give the preg mother the needle as a souvenir. actually, i don't believe it's legal to give the patient the needle since it's a medical device. kb On 1/24/07, AWAriCon <AWAriCon wrote: > > Hello, > > I am a second year student of acupuncture. Guest guest
As previously mentioned the Gold and Silver needles are used for Tonification and Sedation respectively. This particularly method has been of great interest to practitioners of Auriculomedicine (advanced form of Ear Acupuncture) and the choice of metals depends greatly on patients Laterality and diagnosis. As a practitioner of Auriculomedicine i actually do not employ this method, however, collegues of mine in Europe have had great success. According to some practitioners (particularly of the Bahr school) using Gold and Silver needles is a must for specific treatments and the points are preferably " activated " through such metals. If you are interested in purchasing there is a group called SCWA or SCHWA medical supplies in Germany. In regards to re-using them, i agree with Phil in that in todays practice it is generally unacceptable - unless the practitioner knows otherwise. There are excellent texts that describe the sterilisation methods for Gold and Silver needles - methods to get the metals to surgical levels of sterillisation. Practitioners prefer this due to the large cost of gold and Silver needles. David S. Guest guest
David, Can you send the contact info for the German company that sells these gold needles: If you are interested in purchasing there is a group called SCWA or SCHWA medical supplies in Germany. Do you know of a way to acquire these texts that you wrote about?: In regards to re-using them, i agree with Phil in that in todays practice it is generally unacceptable - unless the practitioner knows otherwise. Guest guest
John, Schwa Medico: Rotlinstrasse 86, D-60389 Frankfurt / Main, Germany. www.schwa-medico.de They seem to be quite a good company for those interested in Auricular Acupuncture products. In regards to sterilisation the following is from " Identifying and Treating Blockages to Healing: New Approaches to Therapy-Resistant Patients " by Beate Strittmatter, M.D. this is an excellent book for those looking at the combination of Auriculomedicine and Western Medicine. (page 94 - 95) Firstly Beate states that the needles (gold and silver seperately) should be placed into a jar with a disinfectant solution with cotton balls on the bottom (to prevent hooking). Suitable disinfectant agents must be free of formaldehyde but still effective against fungi, bacteria, and viruses. After several hours remove, check for hooks, sharpen if neccessary, and sterilise in a cellulose swab so that only the handles are exposed. Always check for proper functioning of steriliser. Having said that i don't use these needles all that often and if i do i dispose of them. Therefore i am unsure of the effectiveness of this method.
