Guest guest
Does anyone have info on a comparison between: alpha stim machines and pantheon 8-C Pro machines? What have you found most useful in your clinic? I'm looking for something with low hz capability, strong craftsmanship and nice price. Thanks, K. -- 'Freedom from the desire for an answer is essential to the understanding of a problem.' Jiddu Krishnamurti
Guest guest
Hi John: Please check this web site out: http://www.acumedmedical.com/etps.html What is unique about this ETPS (Electro Therapuetic Point Stimulator) device is that it uses " direct current " rather than alternating current which is what most devices use. That advantage of direct current is much shorter treatment time and more electrical energy going into the body. Alternating current may feel stronger due to higher amplitudes but produce little or no ATP (electrical energy) Also, this device has a switch that allows you to use two polarities (+/-) at the same time which gives a really balanced treatment. Of course, you can use either positive or negative only for some cases. This device also detects changes in skin resistance so it's a good point locator. If you want to use needles too, just put them in and touch the stimulator to the needle to enhance your treatment. No wires! I love my machine. I am also a fan of Jiddu Krishnamurti. Guest guest
Ecleea: Can a practitioner with no experience in electrical acupuncture figure this out. It sounds like a great machine for electric stim. Guest guest
Ann, My advice is to take the course advertised at Bruce Hocking's website, to get some technical background on the machine. He will give you his ideas on how to use the polarities of the device. In my opinion, he uses negative polarity far too much to the detriment of the patient. But you'll have to experiment with this to see what I mean. It is a great machine. Good luck! Guest guest
Ecleea, The problem with the ETPS is that in order to actually send a direct current through a tissue range is to purchase two devices, but the advantage of having a patient use it when not receiving sessions makes it very attractive too. Though i can see simply handing (or selling) an alternating current machine to patients due to ease of use (also i have heard that direct current can damage tissues, though i think alternation can as well, certainly can feel like it!) To what degree would you say does it improve chronic pain in your patients? Are there some recalitrant syndromes that it appears more effective for than others? Guest guest
Timothy: The " two device thing " is a gimmick. I use one with great results. You can affect the nerve ganglions with one just fine to open the pain gate and stop the cycle. So it's good for chronic pain. I would never encourage a patient to use one though. If not used correctly, it could be dangerous, contrary to what Bruce Hocking says. Definitely, you can over-stimulate. Eclea, A.P. Guest guest
Ecleea, Thanks for the information. I checked the website and will wait until a friend pops up with one of these, so I can look at it for myself. Someone wrote that the Pantheon also has DC capability, so I'm checking into more info on the advantages of DC over AC. Thanks for the info: AC produces " little or no ATP (electrical energy " How does this work? Thanks, K.
