Toenail Fungus/Onychomycosis

It's not TCM, but I did listen to a home remedy show and they swear by Vics

vapor rub once a day for two weeks. Said it clears it up lickety split. I

have yet to try it though. Given the tenacity of toe nail fungus, it seems a

long shot, but listening to people that it worked with gave me hope it might

actually work.

Good luck,

Chris

Does anyone have suggestions to effectively treat intermediate to

severe toenail fungus infections (onychomycosis)? Topical/internal

herbal formulas and acupuncture/moxibustion treatments?

Thank you,

Dear dr.Ky Yu

I used to have this problem and it ( an infection ) ate up my foot, my

nail peeled. Before it happened I went to an internist, after that I

visited the podiatrist and dermatologist. They gave me all kinds of

medication, but nothing helped.

Finally, I must treat myself, and I had treated some of my patients

sucessfully.

The treatment is simple , but effective.

Clean the infection foot with warm water ( add little salt in warm

water ). Salt will reduce the infection. Then use vitamin C " powder "

applied on the infection.( crushed the pill 1000mg into powder . It may

help to dry up the infection overnight. No need more than 5 times.

Usually 2 - 3 times are enough. This completely healed my fungus

infection for more than 5 years from now.

I do not know what herbal formula is the best for this problem, but

this is cheap and so effective. There is no need of herbal formula.

GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL !!!!!!!!!

Bluestone (Copper Sulphate) (2.5% solution as topical nail bath) may be

useful. The Chinese name is Danfan. See data from Chinese Govmt Herbal

Database at: http://tinyurl.com/yhpn8m

It is excellent for athlete's Foot, in humans and interdigital dermatitis in

dogs. However, I have not tried it in nail fungus.

Best regards,

One of the active ingredients in Vics is eucalyptus oil. And it has

anti-septic properties, so I'm not really surprised vics works.

Not TCM, but tea tree oil neat is reputed to work well, of course

would need to apply long term.

I did this. All it did was turn my toenail black. I think the problem with

toenail fungus is that it's under the nail, so it's hard to get anything to

penetrate to where the problem is.

Oregano oil applied daily at night covered with band-aid not to soil the linens,

takes a while, but works. I heard some people mix it with DMSO for better

penetration.

Hi Ky! soak feet, or just a toe! in h2O2 food grade (dilute of

course), or I have heard recently AC vinegar. I would assume you

dilute the ACV as well, but have not used this remedy yet, but have

heard wonderful things about it.

For waht its worth to the reader I have patients soak

their affected toe/toes in plain Listerine for 2 - 3

times a day until the fungus clears. Seems to work

for them.
