Guest guest
Dear Peter, Are you refering Chinese medical or Western Medical Chinese? To be honest when i was out in China I searched quite a bit for western medical chinese but all I could find were hundreds and hundreds of dictionaries(most of them quite good). But there are a few books for TCM. I personaly would not recomend bob flaws' book. Although he has quite a bit of reference material in the back, there are no tones, which in my opionion it is a bit pointless to learn chinese if you can not pronounce it correctly. I know that nigel wisemans dictionary is supposingly good but also quite pricey! Again it depends what you are looking for, but i personally think " on the standard nomenclature of traditional chinese medicine " by Prof. Xie Zhufan is one the best so far that I have seen. I know that the author works closely with the WHO representing TCM. Not to big, not too small. It also a quite easy book to read and there is a fair amount of discussion, and most importantly there are tones! You could also use it as a quick reference to some extent as well. The only problem is that it is very hard to get outside of china. Im not sure where you are based but I know that Amazon sells it but it takes something like a month before it is dispatched. Im sure if you search on the internet you can get a good deal though. Again there are quite a few other books which i have found very useful but they are all publihsed in china and not internationaly supplied! Hope i was of some help, Christine Peter duong <chinesemedicine wrote: Has anyone seen a good medical chinese book that they would reocmmend? Guest guest
Hi! Nigel Wiseman's books are the best! Another book you should have is Wiseman's Chinese English/ English Chinese dictionary of , published by Hunan Science and Technology. http://www.amazon.com/English-Chinese-Chinese-English-Dictionary-Chinese-Medicin\ e/dp/7535716563/sr=1-13/qid=1160402548/ref=sr_1_13/102-4528126-3768108?ie=UTF8 & s\ =books It has the most useful sections for learning at your own pace. There is so much embedded within Chinese names and sayings that are often missed. It was my bible in Hunan this summer. Even the doctors there used this reference. Hope this helps!
