Gabrielle:

I find that using emulsified flavored fish oil 1/2 oz. works best with young

children.

The orange flavor is better then cherry.

Anyone know what dosage might work in an 8 year old? I'm seeing stuff all over

the board.

Six capsules daily. 2 to 3 grams fish oil (daily, weekly?)

Thanks,

Gabrielle

I'm not going to give dosage information but ask if you have you tried

the Everyday Omega-3 soft chews from Life Fitness? My kids love

them. We had tried everything from cod liver oil to lemon & orange

flavored pills that they had to bite with their teeth to a particular

brand made just for kids and all of them left my kids gagging but they

love the soft chews and take them every other day with no problems.

Wished I'd known about them sooner.

Hi Gabrielle,

I would encourage the Mom to watch for the fish oil belch that may come

as the cap bursts open in the stomach. I would suggest that the caps be

taken with food and start off with only one per meal.

A lot of ADD kids are carb junkies, which means they may have a hard

time processing oils, including fish oil. So please take it slow, focus on the

kids carb intake as that may affect the ADD drastically. Watch for any signs

that the kid is not processing the oil well. If fish oil not being

utilized, it will work against the child as it oxidizes and over loads the

system.

I really prefer liquid, and some of those flavored emulsified oils

really taste good. There generally isn't any problem with belching, and the

oil

is ready for absorption so they can generally tolerate more per serving. I

would see if they can go in that direction first.

All the best,

Chris

Thanks, but the parents say this kid is a very picky eater, so I don't know if

he would take

a liquid. How many caps do you think might be a good dosage?

I would start out with three and evaluate in one month. I wouldn't exceed six

per 24 hours.
