Guest guest
Dear All, I would very much appreciate some comments and recommendations about doing advanced TCM studies in China. I will be going to China (for the first time) for 2-3 month next spring - more specifically to Beijing (as I have some additional obligations there), and I am wondering how to best organize my studies over there. I am trained in acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine and Western herbal medicine and have a few years experience as a practitioner. So I don't really need to be taught how to diagnose Spleen Qi Xu or when to needle Taichong. My ideal scenario would be doing some advanced acupuncture training, as 'hands on' as possible, and preferably in the area of orthopaedics and neurology (and maybe some training in Chinese articular manipulation). I know there are some formal courses, for example an advanced acupuncture course at Beijing University of - BUCM (has anybody done any training there?). As far as these courses are concerned, however, I do have some doubts about the flexibility and suitability of the curriculum for my specific needs. There is also the cost issue - paying USD 1000 per month in tuition isn't something I can easily afford at present, as living and working in Brazil makes foreign travel and training rather expensive. So what would be an alternative? Hospital Residency? Doctors willing to teach and to be 'shadowed' outside the hospital environment? Or am I being naive here? Any comments, suggestions or contacts, both with regards to formal courses and the alternatives would be greatly appreciated. Kind Regards, Dirk G.
