Guest guest
Hi there! Does anyone have any information about treating phlegm in a 6 month old baby with massage or moxibustion. She has it around the throat and obviouly the lungs. Generally seemingly very healthy, eating well, is on solids... Thanks Nial
Guest guest
Nial, Funny thing is that my 7 month old had the same kind of phlegm stuck in his throat/ lungs for a few days. I spoke with 4 acupuncturists about this and went to Bob Levine, a respected pediatric acupuncturist/ homeopath in the Berkeley area. Check www.phakids.org (Randy Neustadter O.M.D.in bay area, author of :The Vaccine guide and the Child Health Guide) My son contracted this imbalance a month ago (mid summer) after a few days of a heat spell in the region and a week of high pollution and plant allergens in the air. A few red spots popped up from the yang ming region of his face and then a day later started coughing with non-expectorated phlegm lodged in between the throat and thorax. no fever, no chills. spit out a little milk. minor diaper rash (1st time). This was the first time he had any sense of illness, with no complications during pregnancy nor delivery. I administered after consultation, 2 homeopathic remedies (not concurrently) that relieved all of his symptoms in 3 days. They were urtica (nettles) 6c. (rash relieved next morning) nux vomica 30x (phlegm dissolved 2 days afterwards) - more for food allergens/ common cold. Diagnosis: acute attack of wind-damp-heat toxin Check to see if your baby is dehydrated, teething and swallowing his saliva, allergic to plant / dust allergens, allergic to any new food solids, drinking stale milk (breast or formula). If he is dehydrated, may need more water if teething, chamomile tea in the breast milk or chamomila homeopathic is quick relief. allergens in the air, consider air humidifier and carbon air purifier. $150 each. if taking new food solids, eat one at a time to see allergens. milk should not stay out more than ~ 2 hours on a hot day. possible acupressure /acupuncture points: acute: Li 4, Lu 5,6,7, Li 11, St 39, St 25. Li 15, upper KD 9 (Keiko M. - for toxins) immunity: Nagano's immune points ( " triple intestine 10 " ), SP 4 right side, St 36, KD 6, KD 27, Lu9. nourish earth to extract metal, chop wood, carry water. Guest guest
I haven't used this on babies, but for adults an administration of warm water with tea tree (one could also use philodendren/huang bai as well, but tea tree has more antibiotic actions) into the sinus cavities. I know of TCM pediatricians who will use a dropper and simply squirt mixtures that way, but i'm not sure if the application with tea tree will have any Ci's with babies, though i'm fairly certain it is safe, i would research to be certain. Again, with adults this works wonderfully with the use of a netti pot, of course with a reduction of phlegm/damp in the Sp/St to be sure. Guest guest
What about tuina? Infants are very responsive and you can't beat it for safety. Sarah Sarah E. Rivkin, MS, LAc, Dipl. Guest guest
Just a thought - shouldn't a 6 month old still refrain from solids? According to Li Dong Yuan, a child's Spleen and Stomach aren't ready for that until about school age... Perhaps that is causing the phleghm as well?
