Guest guest
Hi all, Ive only just joined the group and was wondering if there is anyone out there practicing integration of Chinese and Western medicine, i.e. qualified in both Western medicine and chinese med.? Regards Christine
Guest guest
Hi Christine, Yes I practise both and am qualified in both although I seem to have gradually incorporated using Chinese herbs more. Western herbal medicine has some fantastic nervines though and some people really like the experience of taking them. I would also say Western herbs perhaps give a quicker response intially, although Chinese herbs seem to be superior for tonifying. I only make my mind up during the consultation, it is also always good to be able to do the T & P to gain insight. I tend to treat one modality or the other, but I know colleagues who can freely mix everything! Guest guest
Well, I'm a western doctor who took acupuncture courses in China and is currently studying Chinese herbalism. I'm part of a group in my old alma mater (University of the Philippines) running an integrative medicine clinic. It's not as good as having both an MD and a OMD or something... Integration of knowledge from north, south, east & west is, IMO, the basis for the best medicine. But that takes a lifetime (maybe several lifetimes) of study. My homepage [ http://homepage.eircom.net/~progers/ ] says: There is but ONE True Medicine: It matters not if medicine is old or new so long as it can cure. It matters not if theories come from East or West so long as they be true. (Jen-Hsou Lin, Taipei) and There is but ONE true Medicine, the Medicine that heals the wounds, of cosmos, spirit, psyche, soma, earth & time. Man & creatures merely come & go in circles, spirals & in time, & medicine dreamed by mortal minds can never foil the longterm dream of God. Guest guest
Dr Tan-Gatue, Do you know Dr Gemma Arellano? She also works at UP general hospital I think. Well I have just gradauted with a BSc Trad. and currently applying to study western medicine so that I can integrate the two but I was not entirely sure how it would work practically as I know studying another 5 years minumum is much hard work and I am not too sure if I could handle to work load of practicing Chinese Medicine studying Western medicine at the same time. Guest guest
Hi there, I studied Chinese medicine, and now am studying for the GAMSAT (probably due to some overachieving masochistic streak)to apply to get into graduate western med. It will take me less time to do an MBBS than it did to get a double degree in TCM. Fingers crossed. Regards, Lea.
Guest guest
Lea, I thought i was the only crazy person studying for GAMSAT!! I started studying for them but now im thinking maybe i wont be ready in time. How long ago did u finish your CM degree? I was thinking of applying for 2007 but i just graduated this year so I only have a few months to study. Im a bit worried that if i actually get in and start straight away i will forget my chinese mediine.
