Guest guest
Location of Yaotong Point and Optimal Time of Its Needling Chen Rilan??? & Yue Xiaoyan??? Objective:To determine the location of Yaotong point and the optimal time of its needling in the treatment of acute lumbar sprain. Method:Thirty-five cases of acute lumbar sprain were retrospectively analyzed for the location of Yaotong point and the method of its needling according to their disease courses and effects. Results: The optimal time of needling is 1-3 days after lumbar sprain, and the location of Yaotong points on both hands correspond to the location of sprain. Conclusion: This correspondence is useful in practice. Journal of Traditional 2006; 26(2):100-

Guest guest
In the article I mentioned, the authors chose to use the most painful point on palpation. Most often they will needle two points; if only one can be found they needle that point. You can have the patient sit down and put their palms on the table. Then needle the point(s) perpendicularly, and only 0.3 to 0.5 cun deep. They think the depth of needling is crucial. Twirl with a rather small amplitude and try to make the needling sensation go upward. It doesn't have to go all the way to the back, but if it moves up the arm that should be satisfactorily. Only very sensitive patients might feel the sensation go all the way to the loin. Moderate stimulation. After 1-2 mins of manipulation, let the patient stand up and move the loin in all directions. The point can also be found more distally than its usual locations, just look for a painful point. As said, best used in the early stage (1-3 days). Less effective after 7 days of lumbago. ---- dar-salud 07/10/06 06:09:01 Chinese Medicine Re: Location of Yaotong Point and Optimal Time of Its Needling Hi all, and Tom N-UE-19(a) Yaotong #1 " Low Back Pain " Location: on the dorsum of the hand at the articulation of the 2nd and 3rd metacarpal bones.
