Does anyone know of any herbal contraindications for patients taking Susteva

or Amtriva for HIV infection?

I have 2 patients taking these meds and both are experiencing many problems

(neuropathy, insomnia, anxiety, palpitations, tremors, depression, dizziness)

that are either due to the infection itself or side effects of the meds. But

both seem hesitant to take herbs because of the fear of drug/herb

interactions. I have read that St. John's Wort is contraindicated with this

class of

meds, but haven't seen any other info. Does anyone have more info?

thanks,

RoseAnne S.

RoseAnne,

I work for a day treatment program for people who are HIV+. We only do

Acupuncture and Massage.....no herbs! There are just to many

contraindications with HIV drug therapy.

The Acupuncture works great for neuropathy, insomnia, anxiety and all the

other symptoms you mentioned.

Good Luck,

RoseAnne......

You may wish to check out Francis Brinker's Herb Contraindications &

Drug Interactions. I find personally find it a bit difficult to use,

but it does have a lot of information in one place.

Here's a link to the online update for that book:
