I wondered why Australia was not going to go to the Olympics. Now I know, and how could you go??? How do the people live in that kind of smog. I guess we see what happens when safety regulations go by there wayside. What it amounts to is the many pay with their lives while the much get more.

I do not think I would even travel through the country. If they actually eat dogs, for me it is one step beyond. Before reading this, I felt like all the countries should attend as it is the first time Olympics has ever been held there, and it would be like a welcome. I guess we are just too different out here, no dog eating. I also did not like to hear they killed 55,000 peoples pets, making it safe. What does that mean???? It is hard to come to grips with a people like this. I love animals of all kinds, but human. sharon

It is ok for Australia or any country if they do not want to expose their athletes to smog or infact to people of that kind. If they do not care about their animals I would think they do not have much for the people either. I do not eat the food anymore, or buy out sourced things from China. It is just beyond belief that money means that much more than a whole county, we have people without jobs, the clothing is outrageous, as well as the fabric. On the light side, I have heard South Pole clothing referred to as threads. The Chinese women come down to work in the factories from the hill country, they live in bunkbeds 5 to a room, paid $80.00 a month wages and $60.00 off it goes for room and board. I wonder what they do with the $20.00 they keep. Now we buy products that do not even support the people who make them, but only enforce their bleek life of nothing, so a few Americans can gobble more money. We have not really come very far as a humanitarian country have we??? Strange ways .Get the scoop on last night's hottest shows and the live music scene in your area - Check out TourTracker.com!

We are going to the Olympics. We are just going for the shortest possible time and just for the actual athletic events.

Yes we have the same problem here - there was a huge article in the paper about the appalling conditions for the Chinese workers - especially when they get blamed for the Mattel disaster and things like that - every day there is less and less stuff made here in Australia - young women come out of the country in China thinking they will make a fortune in the big cities and they become ill with the terrible conditions - sounds like pre industrial revolution in the west - back in the 1800's - exactly the same thing.

Hello all,

I live in Kunming in China, where the air is clean, and people do not

eat dogs.

I was in Beijing last week, and the air was definitely murky, with

considerably reduced visibility.

For those who are unable to understand different cultures, please note

that just 30 years ago, everyone in China wore the same clothes, and

were told what jobs they would do. Twenty years ago, there were no

cars in China. The speed of change is so fast here that things have

chamged while I have been typing this.

This government has taken over 700 million people out of poverty, so

things can't be all that bad.

Yes, it is very different to Western culture, but daily people are

becoming more educated, and demanding higher standards.

Please remember that twenty percent of the world's people live in

China, and less than ten percent of the world's people are white, so

whose right and who's wrong?

Best regards

Thanks Dave. Good to know that more than 90% of the worlds people are

non-white like myself. So how much of the US does China own these

days? I hear that the US is indebted to China BIG TIME!!!
