This is about as ludicrous as it gets. As you well know, aspartame

Manion Reveals Aspartame Swings Both Ways

 

 

For years FDA and aspartame producers declared its just a food

additive, gets digested, never never never gets in the blood. And,

of course, aspartame is NOT A DRUG, a pharmaceutical healing agent, say they!

 

Then C B Manion announced in l998 aspartame controls pain from

Aspartame Possible Therapy for Sickle Cell Anemia

NEW YORK (Reuters Health)

The artificial sweetener aspartame could one day be used to treat the

symptoms of sickle cell anemia, preliminary study findings suggest.

The genetic mutation that causes sickle cell disease results in the

production of a defective form of hemoglobin, the molecule red blood

cells use to deliver oxygen to tissues throughout the body. The

defect causes the red blood cells to take on a sickle shape, and

makes them unable to deliver oxygen efficiently.

The sickled cells can block tiny blood vessels called capillaries,

which is extremely painful and can lead to organ and tissue damage

and stroke. Acutely painful episodes lasting hours or days in which

the blood vessels are blocked and organs are damaged occur in 70% of

sickle cell patients, according to the National Institutes of Health

(news - web sites), and are called crises.

Aspartame has been shown to bind with two proteins that may block the

formation of sickled cells, researchers explain in a recent issue of

Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics.

To investigate, Dr. Carl V. Manion and colleagues from the University

of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City conducted a study

on sickled cells in test tubes and one in humans.

According to the test tube study of blood samples from 20 children

with the disease, sickled cells decreased from 28% of all red blood

cells to less than 14% when 1 milligram (mg) of aspartame was added

to 1 milliliter (mL) of blood. Sickled cells decreased further when 2

mg aspartame was added.

Similarly, the researchers found a decrease in the number of sickled

cells in 15 affected individuals who consumed aspartame.

``In the presence of aspartame...the numbers of sickled cells were

found to decrease significantly,'' Manion and colleagues write.

 

The findings warrant further investigation of aspartame for treating

or preventing sickle cell crises, the researchers conclude.

``Aspartame is particularly convenient to use in clinical trials

because it is considered to be safe for human consumption,'' they note.

Sickle cell disease is most common in people of African descent.

According to the National Institutes of Health, the disorder affects

about 1 in 600 African Americans.

Aspartame and Population Control

 

 

The patent on aspartame held by Searle expired in December of 1992,

allowing other companies besides the NutraSweet Company to produce

aspartame (Therrien 42). NutraSweet Co. and G. D. Searle are

divisions of the Monsanto Company.

 

In 1985 Monsanto purchased G.D. Searle, the chemical company that

held the patent to aspartame, the active ingredient in NutraSweet.

Monsanto was apparently untroubled by aspartame's clouded past,

including a 1980 FDA Board of Inquiry, comprised of three independent

scientists, which confirmed that it " might induce brain tumors. "

 

The use of genetic engineering to make aspartame has stayed secret

until now because there is no modified DNA in the finished product.

Monsanto, the pioneering GM food giant, which makes aspartame,

insists that it is completely safe. But some scientists fear that not

enough is known about the process of making it. One of the two

elements that make up the sweetener can be produced by genetically

engineered bacteria, and scientists say that they cannot rule out

toxic side-effects.

Now you have the past reports as well as what Manion and Edmundson

are up to at the current time. Some action must be taken, and

aspartame must be banned immediately. A petition to ban six years

ago has still not been answered by the FDA even though the law states

that they only have 180 days to answer. An Imminent Health Hazard

amendment was sent in October which they must answer in a week or

so. Since FDA refuses to serve within the law their doors should be

closed forever and the agency replaced with one with concern for safe

food and drugs. More people today die from prescription drugs than

illegal drugs as discussed recently in the New York Times. They have

betrayed the public trust and responsible for unsafe food and drugs,

and have given their loyalty to Big Pharma.

 

Please forward widely. We need big time help to stop these junk

scientists spreading more addictive excitoneurotoxic carcinogenic

aspartame to be used for the very things this poison causes. They
