Guest guest
Recently we sent you an alert about a petition to the FDA submitted by GlaxoSmithKline asking the FDA to classify weight-loss claims from supplements as "disease claims". (Click here to can read how this could affect your access to supplements and to the information you need to make your own health choices). The alert directed you to a relatively new government website for submitting comments to the FDA. Rather than provide an email address to which to send your comments, this website (not ours) uses a "webform" - a somewhat newer means of making your voice heard that many agencies are starting to use in an effort to limit the effectiveness of the type of email campaigns we run, and with which you've become familiar. The FDA notified us that this is their "preferred" way of receiving comments; in order to ensure our efforts were as effective as possible, we used the vehicle for comments they suggested. However, a number of you sent us emails expressing varying degrees of difficulty with what was, for many, an unfamiliar and confusing approach. Thank you to all those who sent us these emails - they are an indispensable factor in our ongoing assessment of how we can improve our efforts and represent you even better. We replied to those of you that emailed us to let you know that your comments had been received and that we were responding with a way for your voice to be heard that was less confusing and more familiar. So, now there are two options for sending your comments to the FDA: If you have yet to send a letter and you want to send your comment the way the FDA prefers, in the format we originally provided, click here to go to the article on our website. Since the last alert we have added instructions in the article that should help you navigate the FDA's webform. OR: Click here to email a letter to FDA Commissioner Andrew vonEschenbach and the FDA's point person on this petition, Lyle Jaffe. You will be directed to the letter-writing page with which you are familiar from prior action alerts. Once again, thank you for helping us ensure that you continue to have a voice on issues of importance to the natural health community, and that you enjoy access to the vitamins, supplements, and health care providers you choose.
