Guest guest
Citrus Compound May Be Key To Diabetes Breakthrough Quote http://www.godlikeproductions.com/forum1/message551036/pg1[link to www.local6.com] ORLANDO, Fla. -- Citrus crops like grapefruits and grapes contain a compound that could help the diets of diabetes patients and even prevent it, according to Central Florida scientists. The report featured Central Floridian Linda Hambelton, who takes 69 pills a day to treat her diabetes.Hambelton has had three strokes, three heart attacks and 22 eye operations after suffering temporary blindness. She had a pancreas transplant and a kidney transplant. "I wouldn't say I have good days anymore, I would say I have better days," Hambelton said. But, there may be hope for diabetes patients via citrus crops. Two scientists discovered a compound called emulin while researching the weight loss properties of grapefruit. The compound is found in the peels of tropical fruits."This product mimics the activity of insulin," A & M Metabolics researcher Joseph Ahrens said. The idea is to extract the compound from the peel of the fruit, filter and purify it to make a tasteless substance that acts as a sugar buffer when added to foods, Local 6 reporter Cooper reported.Studies in Type-2 diabetic rats show great results.Rats fed the equivalent of a brownie with emulin showed a drop in glucose by as much as 27 percent."The control groups that were in the non-treatment group expired," scientist Daryl Thompson said."The rats died?" Local 6's Steven Cooper said."The rats died," Thompson said.Emulin works by reducing the amount of carbohydrates absorbed after meals and the amount of glucose manufactured by the liver. It also speeds the removal of excess sugar from the bloodstream. It is not a sweetener or sugar alternative but like an additive that could be used by mainstream food manufacturers, Cooper reported."It would be like putting folate in bread or vitamin D in milk," Hambelton said. "That's why we do those things, so those foods have a greater benefit to us."While scientists are confident emulin can make eating safer for Type 2 diabetics and perhaps reduce the onset of diabetes. Some doctors are encouraged by the finding."Until we have studies in humans, it's really difficult to come to a conclusion," Florida Hospital Dr. Andrew Martin said."But at the same time, you're not saying, 'No way, this is snake oil?'" Cooper asked."No, definitely not," said.Studies have now moved from rats to humans, Cooper reported.Double-blinded human trials with controls and placebos are under way and the results should be out within a few weeks.Scientists said if the product is approved by the FDA, it could be on the market within two years.Watch Local 6 News for more on this story. 8U5H - L1E5... 9/II 1N51D3 J08A 2 1/3 años del Regreso de Quetzalcoatl.Enki en mi Corazón
