Guest guest
I have a latex allergy it was recognised accidentally (thank goodness) years ago by a doctor who was questioning me pre a surgical proceedure I was about to have. The proceedure was cancelled while they readied the theatre for Latex Free. After this proceedure I had no problems coming out of the anesthetic (?sp) as I had, many many times before. Over the years I have found that I react to the sticky dots they use whilst monitoring body functions/heart rate etc in hospitals..... I use latex free gloves around the house too....... but very recently I have found I seem to be alergic to certain fruits as well.... in particular to bananas of all things.... I LOVE EM!!! After consuming them my tongue gets red, sore, blistered etc...... Reading on www has revealled a common link to some fruits and latex allergens....... it is know in the scientific world as Latex Fruit Allergy...... Anyone else have this? know about this? can expand on this? Cheer's from Clare in Tassie
Guest guest
In the book "The Miracle of MSM: The Natural Solution for Pain" by Dr. Stanley Jacob is discussed both pollen allergies and food allergies. Taking 1-2 grams am and pm seems to alleviate pollen allergies, and taking 1-2 grams of msm before consuming an allergic food seems to alleviate food allergies. I have no personal experience with the food allergy idea, but, I recommended the above protocol to my niece who used to take 3 different meds for pollen allergies and it worked for her. We were talking on the phone and she had to take a deep breath and let it out slowly in order to have the air to talk. I told her to take a gram capsule of her dad's msm supply. She called back an hour later and told me that her nose unplugged and she had no symptoms. She has never taken another allergy pill since, and that was ten years ago. Guest guest
Appreciate your email Hugh. It seems my response to latex is not of a pollen allergy type... from what I have read that is... and I am not a doc to scientists.... just a sufferer! I read that Latex Fruit Syndrome is different from Pollen Food Allergy Sydndrome http://dmd.nihs.go.jp/latex/cross-e.html What my curious mind is looking for (if it exists) is a relationship between latex/food allergy and gluten allergy. I wonder if there is a relationship? Can one possible be the cause of the other? Biopsy says I am not celiac..... diet says gluten sensitive/allergic etc Then I find myself also latex allergic which I already knew about, and now bananas and avocado's too! The seeker in me is on a hunt......... for references and information etc. Thanks again Clare in Tassie In the book "The Miracle of MSM: The Natural Solution for Pain" by Dr. Stanley Jacob is discussed both pollen allergies and food allergies. Guest guest
I get the difference you're talking about and I wish you well in your search. Still, msm is practically inert and it wouldn't hurt to try it. Hugh Clares Primus <mcharris Sent: Wednesday, May 14, 2008 2:49:25 AMRe: learning curve Appreciate your email Hugh. Guest guest
I know this is a bit late, but I am just now getting to my mail. When our son was a toddler, we discovered that his non-stop ear infections were caused due to allergies. After having seen an allergist, who kept wanting blood tests, we changed to another, gentler allergist. This doctor used the basic skin test after asking us what we had tried with the diet and what the child preferred to eat or was picky about. During this time, he only tested for what are the common allergans and what causes problems on either side of the family. The only other two items he ran a test for was fish and banana. The banana surprised us, as we had never heard of this allergy. The doctor explained that the banana is a relative to the rubber family, meaning latex, and an allergy to that could mean an allergy to latex. It turned out that our son was and is allergic to bananas, and thankfully we found out a year before an accident put him in the hospital for a few weeks. We have been able to avoid any problems due to our knowledge of this allergy. Also, something interesting I learned about me after my pregnancy with the same child. I had always been allergic to roses (I know, a cheap date!), but after his birth, I could no longer eat apples. I love fruits and lived on them (apples, pears, plums, mango, grapes, etc) during the pregnancy. They made my mouth and throat itch and gums swell. It turns out that apples are in the rose family. Guest guest
Sorry, I'm behind on emails. I'm allergic to fish, seafood, iodine, latex, bananas, mango's & melons. I'm not sure but maybe some of these are related. I recently had a reaction to spray adhesive & someone told me many people w/ my type of allergies react because there was latex in this adhesive.
