Guest guest
The almond milk is available at my local Krogers, right in the "healthy food" section beside the soy milk, rice milk, and oat milk (and actually several other grain and nut milks too, I'm pretty sure I have seen a hazelnut milk too)......however, there are 5 other grocery stores in my town and NONE of them have ANY non-dairy milks except soy milk :-( So unless you have a Krogers near you, you may have to try a natural food or whole-foods type store. The brand I use is blue diamond, here I just googled it :-) http://www.bluediamond.com/retail/breeze/index.cfm Tricia - T Friday, April 11, 2008 2:18 AM ~ PP Re: NOTMILK - Death by Protein Where do you get almond milk? Guest guest
Thanks for the link, Tricia! The closest I found to me was 60 miles away at a Hy Vee. So happens that my daughter goes to school in that town, maybe I will see if I can get her to pick some up for me! How expensive is it? Guest guest
Oh, get your daughter to bring you some Toni.... I just know you'll like it!! It's usually 2.89 a box here...not bad :-) I am not a milk drinker (never was even before I first went vegan in 1989) so I don't "drink" this either....I use the vanilla flavored daily on cereal, and in coffee. It works MUCH better in hot coffee than soy or rice milks, which I found seem to bead up or act filmy on the surface...YUK. And, I use the original (unflavored, unsweetened) almond milk for cooking and baking in any recipe that calls for milk :-) - T Friday, April 11, 2008 4:59 PM ~ PP Re: Re: NOTMILK - Death by Protein/ Almond Milk Thanks for the link, Tricia! Guest guest
Oh, that is not bad, I guess. I don't drink much milk, well, I guess I don't drink any, I only use it for cereal! I will see if she is close to the Hy Vee, she is due with baby within a few weeks, plus going to college, so she is *testy* at best! lol I'll see if I can talk her into it! Thanks for the link. I was thinking, is it in the refrigerated dept? Cause I do remember seeing boxes of NON refrigerated milks I think in the small, small health food isle at Wal-Mart. I will have to look at what they are the next time I go. A lot depends on where the Krogers is located....if people in that area buy stuff like that. However, you can ask them to get it, esp if other Krogers carries it. Just try to give them as much info on whatever product it is that you want them to get. We've gotten them to get some things we've seen in some other stores. We went to Krogers today to get groceries, and they didn't carry many of the things Tricia mentioned. What they carry can really differ from area to area - sometimes one doesn't have much of anything, but another, perhaps 15 miles away, carries it. If it's a lot of trouble to get to one, you might want to consider calling whichever one you plan to go to. Just a thought, but if you can't find what you want anywhere near you, you might consider getting some online. Haven't done it myself, but some people do it.....Just a thought, Lynn Thanks for the link, Tricia! The closest I found to me was 60 miles away at a Hy Vee. Guest guest
just a thought on purchasing pre packages 'health' milks just how 'healthy' are they? what has been added to the mixture to give it a long shelf life... when compared to home made / fresh stuff. I have even got to the stage now of making my own stocks/broths and 'canning' them because of the chemicals and other things (fillers) used in commercially prepared food stuffs that I react to. Who would have ever imagined that wheat/gluten was in such staple items at canned/uht bricked chicken stocks and stock cubes? ahhh the humble oxo cube is perilous to me! So having 'aired' my thoughts...... I personally would make my own almond milk thereby missing out on all the chemicals I imagine would be in the UHT versions.... and would the UHT treatment somehow manage to kill/destroy/minimise some of the valuable nutrients in the freshly made milk? This is a health/healing discussion board - so I guess tiz OK for me to air my thoughts on this subject..... Clare
Guest guest
Hi Toni... nope, not refrigerated.... it is in boxes just out on the regular shelves :-) It would be great if you can find some near you. Our Walmart doesn't have it though, but perhaps some do. - T Friday, April 11, 2008 8:29 PM ~ PP Re: Re: NOTMILK - Death by Protein/ Almond Milk Oh, that is not bad, I guess.
