Henna isnt doing it for me, lol Hi Barb, I live in Mexico where the people have a cultural history of using natural remedies and herbs for most ailments. What I do for my gray hair is prepare a kind of tea out of a mixture of henna, a small piece of organ cactus and a few walnuts and leave it on my hair for about 10 minutes before shampooing. It darkens the hair shaft and although it's not permanent and tends to slowly lighten up with subsecuent shampoos, it works better for me than just henna alone. Guest guest
Wow Thanks for the recipe! I need to gather the ingredients, and have henna already but I don't know what organ cactus is, . Is that a specific plant or class of plants? .. And the tea, is that black tea? .. I know the tannic acid should do a lot to help the process... THANKS For the neat tip!< Sincerely Barb M. ---- Diana de Guerrero 4/5/2008 9:28:41 AM Re: Hair Coloring Dye that's Natural? Thought the other poster, who talked about using walnuts was interesting too. It reminded me that walnuts do have a very dark, semi-permanent color you can get from them. I'd probably do something to get some of the gray out, but I'm not the type to keep up with things like that. Vain but lazy!! *grin* - and hate the look of a color growing out. If it wasn't so much trouble, I'd go red! Love it, but it's so much trouble - especially since my hair has gotten really dark as I've gotten older (except for some of the grey, of course...) Do you know whether one can get the Tints of Nature in England? I think my sister would be really interested. Even though she's younger than I am, I think it really irks her that she has so much more grey than I. In fact, the last time I saw her, she thought I was lying and was coloring my hair, because I didn't have that much grey in mine, while hers was very grey. We have totally different skin coloring, though - mine is olive, whereas hers is more a peaches and cream. My hair also got much darker than hers - took after my dad's side that way. His mother, my grandmother, didn't have a bit of grey in her hair until she was almost 80! Guest guest
Hi , Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner about the name of the cactus I was referring to, but I see that you've gotten some other great suggestions for your question in the meantime. The cactus used in Mexico for darkening hair is called " Organ Pipe " cactus in English; in Spanish it's called " Organo " and is very common here in Mexico. The " tea " I was talking about isn't made with black tea though. All you do is just boil a small piece of the cactus with a few walnuts and add that to the diluted henna and leave it on your hair for about 10 minutes before shampooing. By the way, there is a natural shampoo called " Organogal " by the Grisi company(if you can find it) that is supposed to keep your hair dark. Diana .. Wow Thanks for the recipe! Guest guest
Thanks so much... I like the do it yourself approach. I want to find the shampoo and also the cactus you're talking about to go ahead and mix some up and try it!. Have a wonderful week! ---- Diana de Guerrero 4/5/2008 11:31:49 PM Re: Hair Coloring Dye that's Natural?
