Relaxation Tea

 

1/4 tsp. lavender, 1/2 tsp lemon balm leaves, 1/2 tsp. linden

For relaxation: catnip, camomile, rose petals

Note: To make an herbal bath, simply tie the desired herbs into a

Simmer 25 grams lavender flowers, the peel of half a lemon (no white

pith)

and 25 grams thyme in 200 ml. distilled water. Add 10 drops each of

lavender

oil and tea tree oil. Dab in spots as needed. It should keep a week

in the

fridge.

Violet Milk Cleanser

 

Add 1 tsp violet petals to 1/4 cup milk. Heat gently until nearly

simmering,

and keep heating until milk is strongly violet-scented. Strain,

bottle, keep

in fridge and use within 3 or 4 days. Makes a soothing, oil-free

cleanser.

Citrus Milk Moisture Lotion

 

Slice up half an orange and half a grapefruit or lemon and simmer

very

gently in a cupful of milk. Strain, bottle and refridgerate. This is

a very

light toning moisturiser which when applied regularly makes the skin

silky

and bright.

Herbal Vinegar Hair Rinse

 

Fill a bottle or jar 1/2 full with all or some of the following

herbs:

rosemary, sage, camomile, catnip, yarrow, lemon peel, orange peel,

basil and

lavender. Fill the bottle to the top with quality apple cider or

white wine

vinegar. Seal and shake every day for a few weeks. Strain and use a

tablespoon in your final rinsing water.

Marigold Soap

 

Place 2 tbsp of fresh marigold petals, finely chopped, in 2 tbsp of

warm

glycerine and leave to infuse in a warm place for two hours. Melt 12

tbsp of

grated castile soap in a double-boiler. Remove from heat and add the

glycerine infusion, 1 tbsp of clear honey, and if desired, food

colouring.

Pour the sap into glycerine-greased moulds and leave to set.

Sleep Tea

 

4 clusters (or 2 tbsp) of hops

1 tsp. each of lavender, rosemary, thyme, mugwortand sage

1 tbsp. chamomile and wintergreen

1 pinch of valerian root (be careful NOT to smell it!)

honey to taste

 

Take a tsp of the mixture and pour into 1 cup hot water. Wait for 3

minutes,

then strain. Drink it after it cools a little. This mixture should

make 8 or

9 cups. Store the unused tea in a tight-sealed container for later

use.

Health Vinegar

 

1 quart apple cide vinegar

1/8 cup rosemary (whole)

1 tbsp fennel seeds (whole)

1 tbsp rose petals

2 bay leaves (shredded)

1 pinch genuine saffron (may be omitted)

 

Put the ingrediants in a bowl one at a time, empowering each herb as

you go

along. Pour the vinegar into a jar larger than the one it is already

in. Add

the herbs. Tightly cap the jar, shake and let stand for 1-3 days.

Strain the

resulting liquid through a coffee filter. Bottle, label and add 6

tbsp to

every bath to speed healing.

Strawberry Cleanser

 

If you have pimples, mash a few strawberries and mix into 1 tsp.

sour cream.

This makes a creamy cleanser that will clear up your skin.

Honey Scrub

 

To make a good exfoliating scrub, mix a tsp. of warm runny honey

with 1

tbsp. milk. Add sugar until you get it to a grainy consistency. Use

immediately.

Carrot Face Mask

 

Boil three large carrots and puree in a food processor. Add 5 tbsp.

yogurt

and mix well. Apply in an upward motion, and leave on for 15

minutes, then

splash off with warm water. Makes a soothing, moisturizing mask that

leaves

dry skin soft and silky.

Oil Conditioner

 

Warm some olive oil in the microwave and add a few drops of

essential oil.

Apply to head, working it through your hair. Rinse well. The olive

oil will

repair split ends and the essential oil will make your hair smell

Mix 1 cup of the herb witch hazel and 1/4 tsp. mint extract with 1/4

cup

white vinegar. Dab some on a cotton ball and swipe over your face to

use.

Makes a great pore-cleaning astringent.

If your hair is frizzy and staticky, mix 1/2 tsp. lemon juice, 1/4

tsp. lime

juice and 1/2 cup water in a spray bottle. Shake well. Spray in your

hair

Cucumber Face Mask

 

Blend 1 peeled cucumber, 1 tsp. olive oil and 1/2 cup plain yogurt

in a

blender. Apply to face. Wait 15 minutes before rinsing off. For

parched, dry

If you want your hair to have more body, mix 1 tsp. of almond oil, 1

tsp.

olive oil, 1 tbsp. honey, 1 tbsp. lemon juice and 1 egg yolk in a

bowl.

Apply to your hair from roots to end and massage into scalp as well.

For added shine and condition, take 1/8 cup of dried herbs (1/4 cup

if it's

fresh) and cover in 2 cups boiling water. Cover and leave to steep.

Add a

tbsp. to your rinsing water every time you wash your hair. Use

rosemary,

sage, parsley or catnip if you're a brunette, camomile or marigold

if you're

blond.

Salad Mask

 

Take some lettuce, cucumber, tomato and avocado (exact amounts don't

matter)

and puree them until liquid. Add a small spoonful of mayonnaise and

enough

oatmeal to make it stick to your face. Soothes and moisturizes, as

well as

cooling red, sweaty faces.

Squeeze half a lemon and mix the juice with one beaten egg white.

Leave on

Take a handful of lemon verbena leaves, add them to a cup of boiling

water

and let them steep for an hour. Strain. Pour over hair after

shampooing and

conditioning and then towel dry. Refreshes your hair, stimulates

Body Scrub

 

Mix 2 tbsp. oatmeal, 2 tbsp. corn meal, 2 tsp. wheat germ, 1 tbsp.

honey and

1/4 tsp. almond extract with just enough water to make it a paste.

Makes a

wonderful scrub that sloughs away dead skin.

Herbal Soap

 

Melt 1 cup of grated soap scraps in a double-boiler. Add a little

water to

help the scraps melt. When the soap turns to gel, gradually add 2

tbsp. of

finely ground dried herbs (good ones: camomile, mint, lavender or

thyme) and

mix in well. Once the soap has cooled down enough to touch, pour

into a mold

like a cut-down milk carton. Let the soap harden for a few weeks

before

using.

Bath Salts

 

Mix equal quantities kitchen salt and baking soda in a jar. Add a

few drops

of essential oil for scent, a few drops food colouring for colour.

Shake

well. Pour some under running water every time you take a bath.

Herbal Body Splash

 

For an after-bath splash that refreshes, combine 1 and 1/2 cups

water, 1/4

cups witch hazel and 1/4 cup aloe vera gel in a bottle. Cap the

bottle and

shake until the gel dissolves. Add a few drops of essential oil.

Make a

little sachet of rosemary by tying up some of the dried herb in a

small

piece of fabric and drop into the bottle.

Oatmeal Bath Gel

 

To make a creamy bath gel, mix 1/4 cup dry oatmeal and 1 tsp. honey

with

enough milk to make it a paste. Put in the microwave for a few

seconds to

warm up and then use.

Rose Water

 

Boil water, add dead rose heads and petals and simmer gently for 15-

20

minutes. Let cool, then bottle and add to your bath.

Deep Conditioner

 

Pour 1 cup hot water over 1/2 cup rose petals and let them sit until

they

wilt (approximately 10 minutes). In a blender, combine 1 peeled and

chopped

banana, 1 tbsp honey and 1 tbsp almond oil. Slowly add the rose mix

and

blend into a cream. Apply to hair and leave on for 20-30 minutes

(put on a

shower cap to avoid drips), then rinse well.

Apple Hair Rinse

 

Combine 1 large cored apple (peeled and cut into small pieces), 2

tbsp apple

cider vinegar and 2 cups water in a blender and set on High for 15

seconds.

Strain to remove solid pieces. Pour liquid over hair, massage in,

and rinse

with cool water.

Oatmeal Exfoliator

 

Make a paste using 3 tbsp oatmeal, 1 tsp unprocessed honey, 1/4 cup

warm

water, 1 tsp white wine vinegar and 1 tsp freshly-squeezed lemon

juice.

Massage gently into skin to slough off dead cells, then rinse with

warm

water.

Body Scrub

 

Combine 2 tbsp of sea salt or kosher salt with 1 tbsp almond oil, 1

tbsp

light olive oil, 1 tbsp vitamin E oil (or just break open a couple

vitamin

capsules) and pinches of dried rosemary, spearmint and lavender.

Massage

into your skin for 5 minutes, then rinse.

Aloe Mask

 

Mix 1/2 cup of plain yogurt with 2 tbsp of aloe gel. Leave on for 10

minutes, then rinse with warm water. Makes a mild, soothing mask.

Liquid Lavender Soap

 

Put 6 tbsp. of grated castile soap and some water in a heatproof

bowl and

place over a saucepan of boiling water. When the soap has melted,

stir in 5

tbsp glyverine. Remove from heat and stir in 4 drops of lavender

oil. If

desired, stir in a few drops of natural food colouring to colour the

soap.

When cool, pour into clean bottles and seal with corks.
