I was under the impression that the white spot's are actually where you have hit the nail or finger, like a bruise? The health things ( to me ) is to look for ridges and abnormalities .Forgive me if I'm wrong....but I always have white " bruises " on my nails...5 of them lol! But on both hands.

White spots indicate a zinc defieciency. I would not overdo it though. I would give the child a 10mg tablet once a day for a week and then cut down to once a week. (Too much zinc, depletes copper. According to my book " Dr. Chi's Guide to Fingernail & tongue Diagnosis "

White spots on the fingernails of men, women and children may have to do

with kidney and hormonal imbalances. Zinc & Calcium deficiencies are also

possible. In children and adolescents, this may be due to developmental

changes or hormonal changes that occur in the normal growth stages.

Hi,

I just finished reading an article about this very thing. I do not

have white spots but I have suffered with fungal infections of my

nails for almost 10 yrs now. From what I have read(I'm referencing

directly from the article)the spots can be caused by many things.

Trauma of course is one, crushing or slamming the nail, etc. Fungus

can sometimes cause white spots when it is in it's early stages.

Deficiences in protein and zinc is another. Also, skin conditions such

as eczema and psoriasis can cause them. Basically the article goes on

to say it isn't normally harmful or even a reason for concern.

 

Not sure how to make them go away though!

*Please see my tip about soaking *Fingernails and Fingertips in

Plain Yogurt for 10 min.'s a day; that and take *Pro-Biotics " and/or

eat Yogurt daily. This is particuarly good for " hang-nails " .

 

One could also apply any OTC anit-bacterial ointment like Mycatracin.

Here's the link to the article. Funny, I also just read another

article that said white spots are not from zinc or calcium defeciency

that it's a myth! Who do we believe??? LOL I'm confused!
