Guest guest
I had ordered some Comfrey that came in today and was wondering about the warning that was posted on the bag. If I may this is what it reads: Quote FDA & FTC's " Operation Cure-All " has been strengthened to prevent what the agency cals " unscrupulous " activities of Internet providers of herbal dietary supplements, which " put consumers unnecessarily at risk " . We must now provide this. " WARNING: External Use Only. Consuming this product can cause serious liver damage. This product contains comfrey. Comfrey contains pyrrolizidine alkaloids, which may cause serious illness or death. This product should not be taken orally, used as a suppository, or applied to broken skin. For further information contact the Food and Drug Administration. " End Quote I did a quick search and came up with this article- http://www.umm.edu/altmed/ConsHerbs/Comfreych.html Is this something that I should be concerned about? Is this another case where they shoot the rat up with incredible amounts type deal, or is it something to be wary of. I am pregnant at the time, and it says on the page that it shouldn't be used at all during pregnancy. Does someone have some insight to share? TIA --Jamie
Guest guest
What do you intend to use comfrey for? Here's some info on comfrey: http://www.ghorganics.com/page34.html Comfrey Culture and Uses From what I have read on other sites there is more allantoin in new leaves & they should only be used externally. The older bigger leaves can be used internally in moderation. If I were you, being pregnant, I would do a very indepth search before using anything.
