Guest guest
Hello everyone! My daughter and I have a problem and we are open to any and all types of suggestions, just fyi. My four month old grand daughter cries awfully whenever she is in the car. The car seat is fine and strapped in correctly. She is on soy formula because she had too many digestive problems with everything else they tried. She is not an irritable or fussy baby, nor does she spit or vomit alot, but when we get in the car, she cries and cries. The situation is very stressful for her mother when she's driving alone with the baby, and ditto for me and anyone else who drives alone with her, so we are trying to come up with a plan, or routine, to be done before getting in the car so it is less stressful for us to hear her crying while we're driving. We are both calm, peaceful people, but it's difficult and heart-breaking. If someone can hold a bottle for her or entertain her, she only cries for a short while. The baby's mother had motion sickness/car sickness as a child quite severly and since car seats are strapped in backwards, I suspect the baby might be suffering from car sickness. I thought of soaking a cloth in ginger tea and putting it on her belly, but I wasn't sure if she was too young for that. Does anyone have any suggestions? And if you work with laughter as medicine, we would really love to hear from you right now!

Guest guest
Wow, unerving huh! i've eight kids and two grandbabies. When babies cry to let off steam, I call it "singing"! BUT...in a car, I am wondering of the fumes, with windows up or down. Grannie Jen dsdollman <dsdollman wrote: Hello everyone! Guest guest
Hi there! Hi there, Have you tried a different car seat? My kids really were picky about their car seats. I think that the lumps and bumps in them press in different places and can be very uncomfortable. We had to change a couple of car seats with one of my children. Also, I found with one of mine, who did not constantly cry in the car, but was more prone to it, I just didn’t go very many places in the car with the baby. I just stayed home and relaxed until baby got a little older, but I wasn’t in a situation where I had to be a lot of places. Also, it might not be a very familiar feeling for the baby. The baby might be feeling afraid or having other emotions while it’s in the car seat. I know people have had good success with the homeopathic remedies for colic and you could try that as well. Many of the remedies that are used for colic double as remedies used for upset stomachs. Hylands is a brand that has formulas for children/babies that dissolve very quickly and can often be bought in the grocery store. You might also like to try the Bach remedy “Rescue Remedy” you can apply this just to the baby’s pulse points. I use this on my children when they get upset with great success. I didn’t know about the Bach remedies when my babies were little, but I do feel like for our family they would be a safe choice. You could also think about adding a small amount of peppermint tea to the babies formula or the ginger tea. Not a lot, just a little goes a long way. A friend of mine had a baby that did this. Her baby was very small (premature) and it turned out that she had a hernia (due to being a preemie). She only cried when she was in her car seat. They did choose surgery for the baby (after waiting a few weeks to see if it would heal on it’s own) and the baby stopped crying when put in the car seat. So, they figure that it was painful for the baby to be in the car seat. This would be very stressful! Hopefully, you can find a solution. It is wonderful that you are concerned about your granddaughter being upset in the car, some people might just overlook this. J Hugs! Guest guest
When my daughter was a toddler she was a calm, happy, easy child. But every time we drove in the car she screamed horribly every minute and nothing could solve it. It was such a problem, and after she got old enough to talk and tell us we discovered that she has motion sickness. Even now riding in the car can be very miserable at times. Guest guest
I would agree that it might be motion sickness which is caused by an inner ear imbalance. I've been plagued by motion sickness all of my 53 years. Susan

Guest guest
It is also mental and comes about from the person's attempt to stop the motion. Having been a sailor in my younger days, I can tell you that you don't want to stop the motion, you want to contribute to it. You'll never get motion sickness if you do this. This is where the sailor's swagger comes from. ;-) In Health, Freedom, and Love, Doc Doc Shillington727-447-5282Doc - Stoptheirs herbal remedies Wednesday, September 06, 2006 7:18 PM Re: Herbal Remedies - Re: worried grandma In a message dated 9/6/2006 4:10:20 PM Pacific Daylight Time, triorganics (AT) cableone (DOT) net writes: I would agree that it might be motion sickness which is caused by an inner ear imbalance.
