Guest guest
Can you make your own garlic oil? How? The only recipes I have say it only lasts for a couple days. I am looking for something I could make and keep on hand. I believe you can do this with Doc's formula? Thanks! Tyrie
Guest guest
Tyrie, I made garlic oil this winter. The directions I found said use a glass jar with a cheesecloth covering held on by a rubberband. Place in a warm location out of the sun. Stir once a day with a wooden spoon. Strain out garlic after 14 days. It didn't say how much garlic/oil so I used about 10 cloves to 1 cup of oil. I didn't know if the garlic should be sliced or what, so I cut the large cloves in several pieces and left the smaller ones whole. After about 10 days the garlic started turning brown - didn't know if that was suppose to happen so I took the garlic out and refrigerated the oil in smaller jars. They "melt" quickly when taken out of the refrigerator. It was much stronger than store bought garlic oil. We still have it in the refrigerater and still use it externally. Guest guest
The recipe I use for making garlic oil is as follows: Peel and mince garlic place in small glass jar (about the size of a baby food jar). Pour olive oil an inch over garlic. Let sit 3 days. Strain. Add 1/4 tsp vit E and 1/4 tsp tea tree oil to preserve. Bottle in dark bottle and keep refrigerated. Before use, heat bottle with garlic oil by holding under hot running water. This lasts in the refrigerator for about a year. Garlic oil is a wonderful remedy for earaches. Gently squeeze garlic oil into ear. Gently rub behind ear and down throat. Apply cotton to keep in ear. Always treat both ears because infection often goes from one ear to other.
