Guest guest
I am not sure that I ever did a " proper " introduction when I joined the boards. That said here goes, please bear with the length I am 1) healing and 2) trying to make positive changes and want you guys to have the whole picture. I joined the board shortly after my mother died because I am convinced (now more than ever) there is something better and more natural than conventional Western Medicine. She was diagnosed in July with bone marrow cancer (can't recall the proper name). She had a mass (tumor) on her spine which was surgically removed. After that she was put on a course of treatment that was termed biological chemotherapy where she took a combination of pills and would have had a bone marrow cleaning and reinsertion this past January. In addition she had localized radiation therapy to kill off the tumor that the surgeon couldn't reach on the underside of her spine. Needless to say one thing led to other complications and so on. In November she was admitted to the hospital after having flu-like symptoms only to find that she'd had a ruptured bowel for who knows how long and had a small portion of her small intestines that was gangrene - all the results of the medications the doctors had her on. When the surgeon opened her it is reported that there was over a gallon of pus in her abdomen that had to be cleaned and irrigated; he cut the gangrene and resected her small intestine and gave her a colostomy for the bowel problem because they couldn't find the actual spot of rupture. Needless to say she was septic because of all the poison from the bowel in her system. She did well for one week recovering miraculously until a nurse came in and moved her bed all around shaking her body back up (and I presume the toxins that had settled but were working their way out of her system). She went into septic shock and less than 24 hours later died. That said what changes can I make in my life (which hasn't been the healthiest) so that I don't have to travel that road? Below are the changes I have made so far: --> I have started eating mostly organic but have found there aren't many organic stores in the DC Metro area. I started with Whole Foods only to find they are merely a supermarket under the guise of an organic store. -->I started juicing but haven't been doing that as regularly as before. -->I drink my water with cayenne tincture and sometimes lemon. -->I have cut meat down to maybe once or twice a month except chicken and fish which I do the rest of the time. -->I have at least one day per week where I have no meat at all, just fruits, grains and veggies. I would like to hear suggestions from all who are willing. I realize there may be differing opinions but I need a place to begin. I have come to the end of my excuses and want to make lasting changes because I have a life to live. I don't want to live this life obese nor on medications nor in fear that I'll end up with cancer or some other disease. Besides which I would like to see my child grow up and want to raise her to have healthy habits. I look forward to hearing from you guys. Guest guest
Sorry to hear about your mom. My mom died of cancer last year after 29 years of cutting, poisoning & burning going the Dr route. I think you are doing great with how you've started. There are a lot of vegetarian cookbooks out there if you need recipe help getting off the meat. Chicken and fish aren't that great either. I stopped eating all of them about 15 years ago. It was easy for me 'cause I always burned them when cooking anyway... My favorites cookbooks are: 1. Best Gourmet Recipes from the chefs of Five Loaves Deli & Bakery, by Neva Brackett 2. Of These Ye May Freely Eat (Cheap and good - $2.95), by JoAnn Rachor 3. Country Life Vegetarian Cookbook 4. The Guilt-free Gourmet, By Vicki B. Griffin (Includes 40 pages of health tips & lifestyle changes.) I also try to follow the "NEW START" program from the Weimar Institute. When I get sick I grade myself on these to see where I've been going wrong: N - Nutrition E - Exercise W - Water S - Sunshine T - Temperance A - fresh Air R - Rest T - Trust in God I mentioned recently in another post about a DVD series promoting the changes you mentioned and that explains the NEW START program called "Lifestyle for Excellent Health". I highly recommend the series which can be purchased at the following web site: http://modernmanna.org/bellavita_about.asp I would suggest that you not use cayenne on a regular basis unless it is for confronting a specific problem you are having. I have read that it can cause stomach problems. I take it on & off for a few problems, but wouldn't do it just because... Water is great all by itself! A warm glass of water w/ lemon juice in the morning upon rising cleanses the system. Health for your journey! Guest guest
I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. Lots of love and healing to you and your family ) I'd go on forever about the hospitals and dr's and how people seem fine until they're magically "diagnosed" with all sorts of things, and how once they can make up a name for something and slap it on you, it's a long downhill road of medicine and surgeries and agony for the patient and their families but merely $$$ for the supposed caretakers... but that won't make anyone feel any better ) I'll just say that I'd bet you'd be surprised how many similar stories there are out there... I have a couple myself which also led me to the beginning of a long road of life changes. Sounds like you are on a good start! I would suggest lots of things, but the biggest thing to remember in this new phase of learning is that you stay open to the learning process and have faith. Sounds silly, but it's the best way to start. It's too overwhelming, being in a large metro area, to expect everything to happen overnight... I know and am ALL too familiar with the "grrrr!" feeling of living in a big city and not always being able to find the healthy things I SHOULD be able to find all around me! I think getting off medications of the pharmaceutical kind (In some cases it is necessary to do this gradually depending on what you may be on) changing your diet to include even less meat, if any (And try to find organic meats when you do just have to have them... you said you don't have meat once a week, maybe you should ONLY have meat once a week instead) and keeping up with the organic searches is a really good start... don't give up on the organic stuff, it's there, in most stores, just gotta make sure to read labels and signs more often. Maybe you could do some research on starting an herbal & vitamin regimen too, just to help things along; I take a whole food supplement at bare minimum every day, to get everything I know I need, you can get them at any vitamin store... maybe even do a cleanse to kick start it all (I have been planning a month long cleanse for a while now which will begin in June... I too am new to this like you are, because of some quite heavy life-changing events). And last but FIRST, lol Exercise! Whatever that is... make it fun! Get sunshine for a little while every day if possible... go for walks to nearby parks, dance, take a bike ride with your daughter... whatever makes you feel good! But be active, as active as you can handle... and keep up the good work! )Love and Blessings,~RaavenMe <p31ladee wrote: I joined the board shortly after my mother died because I am convinced (now more than ever) there is something better and more natural than conventional Western Medicine.
