Guest guest
Does anyone have any suggestions on this matter? My entire life I have gotten violently ill every month, which is only relieved by taking ALL too many otc drugs (usually 3 advil every 3-4 hours for 2-4 days) which also in turn messes up my stomach terribly. Lately, I have been changing my diet slowly, including the complete elimination of drugs. And in many ways it has helped my cycle, as far as regularity and such... but the pain I endure has not lessened in ANY way, and as hard as I try I always resort to the advil again when the pain gets so bad it makes me unable to even move, and sometimes even brings me to the point of vomiting. This is a problem I have suffered with for as long as I can remember. I do not suffer from PMS too bad, other than getting a little moody and maybe an occasional headache, which I can control with teas and herbs. But I still have found nothing to stop the cramps once I " start " . I cannot afford to spend 2-4 days a month in bed, but if I don't take the drugs that is what happens. In bed, nauseous, unable to eat, and clinging desperately to a heating pad (Sometimes two... one in front and one on my lower back) until the pain finally subsides or I pass out from exhaustion! lol I would ADORE anyone who has any kind of help with this. I have changed lots of things in my diet which help with everything BUT the actual pain. And I REALLY don't want to have to take any kind of drug anymore, even if it is only once a month. Pvt responses are ok too... but any advice in any form would be wonderfully appreciated... Guest guest
Evening Primrose Oil. If I'm not keeping track, my periods sneak up on me now. I used to get awful cramps and just lay around for a few days. I just buy good quality capsules and take according to the label. Guest guest
Hi, I've found that Agnus Castus/ AKA Chasteberry (herb) really helps me. Also try some extra magnesium rich foods. Guest guest
hi- I used to get pretty awful periods after I had my kids- before then I had no trouble. but I found if I ate certain foods, like protein rich things and never let my tummy go to empty I could avoid cramps. we tend to crave sweets and salts but they usually made me feel more overfll while still having a gnawing hunger which also made things worse and I'd have to find some meat and fast. anything sweet even fruits made me worse. that’s was my experience, my mom and stepmom had it very bad and I don’t know if you are more like them or me but my step mom had to have a hystorectomy as nothing, and I mean nothing else took care of it- she had endometriosis. good luck- melisa
Guest guest
Well I'm hesitant to tell you what I used to do when I was younger..but cramps suck and it worked for me, so I'll share it. Don't nobody laugh ok???? It does look a little silly but it has something to do with pressure points. Take your thumb tip and stick it up inside the middle part of your lip...I'm serious;-) Then take the length of your forefinger and clamp down on top part of your lip. You will probably feel your pulse when you do this.. (I wonder how many of you are attempting this as you are reading this.. hehehehe). Gently apply pressure on lip with thumb and finger and keep a firm hold for several minutes. It kind of looks like a baby sucking it's thumb but within a few moments the cramping begins to subside. Of course the only downside is you may need to use your hand and people may stare at you....but it did work for me. My daughter does this to relieve her cramps as well. You may also check with your GYN. Sometimes pain and/or heavy bleeding is a signal of uterine fibroids. These are fairly common and usually benign from what my gyn told me when I dealt with them. Best of luck to you;-) On Friday, April 28, 2006, at 03:42 PM, herbal remedies wrote: > " E J Lanier " raavenart > Fri Apr 28, 2006 3:41pm(PDT) > desperate for relief: menstrual cramps > > Does anyone have any suggestions on this matter? Guest guest
Thanks, Melisa :)Ironically enough, a few months ago before I was laid off and lost my insurance, I had a huge issue with kidney stones, and during all that my Dr did say she was concerned I had endometriosis. Unfortunately now without the insurance, I really can't afford to get to the bottom of that. At least not through the "real" Dr's. But I also have recurring ovarian cysts... so I am hoping that just the change in everything I've been "doing wriong" over the years will help with all of it! But I'm glad you mentioned the endometriosis, as I had completely forgotten it HAD been mentioned to me by my OB before... Guest guest
Five years ago I eliminited beef and pork from my diet and it greatly relieved my cramps. I also decreased my caffeine and sugar intake two weeks prior to my cycle starting. This helps as well. I have no more vomitting or sick days unless I've eaten too many sweets. I really nope this helps.
