He was up all last evening with the pain. I swear, I thought he was having a heart attack but he has been checked and his heart is fine and his general health is good. Now I know the doctor is going to give him some of those 'purple pills' or other such treatments for the gas and heartburn and I really don't want to see him going that route - the side effects are frightening on some of those treatments.Does anyone know any way to help him with this Gas/Heartburn problem? I almost have him convinced to do a cleanse and I have him taking some probiotic powder but other than that he's been taking Rolaids, Pepcid and Pepto-Bismal ... not a greatw ay to handle the problemThankyou so muchGlenda avast! Guest guest
From my experience, heartburn comes from eating too frequently (snacks, or too many meals) and drinking fluid with meals. Drink water, but not at mealtime. It dilutes the bodies fluids and inhibits digestion. If the body gets plenty of water throughout the rest of the day, it will produce enough saliva to chew the food without feeling the need to wash it down with water. Also, notice how the heartburn commercials have increased with the popularity of eating many small meals throughout the day? This practice of many small meals or snacking throughout the day does not give the body time to digest food properly before more food is added which wears down the stomach. Since I've cut out snacking, have a scheduled time for meals - with 5 to 6 hours before the next meal (no, its not hard once your body adjusts - mine took 10 days), and drink plenty of water (minimum of 1/2 body weight in ounces: 128 lb person would drink 64 oz = 8, 8 oz. glasses) stopping 1/2 hour before and waiting 1 hour after meals to drink, and have the last meal at least 2 hours before bed time, I no longer experience heartburn at all. Hope everyone afflicted finds relief! Guest guest
Hi Vicki ) Interesting... so should I just not drink at all during meals? I really ONLY drink water... worked really hard to cut out drinking milk, soda's and sugary juices... so unless it's juiced fruit, or maybe some herbal teas, ALL I drink is water! I'm also a spice freak... garlic, cayenne, etc... so I can't see myself not drinking at all during a meal! Gotta cleanse the pallet! )Also, interesting that you do better with less meals... I was the type of person to go all day withOUT eating, and it KILLED my stomach! I do much better with 4 small *meals (not really typical meals... sometimes it's as simple as some whipped up hommus and celery...) but had to train myself to do this as well. It helped greatly with the acid, but what helped MOST, of course, was the change in WHAT I was eating. I'm interested in the water thing... Thanks! :)Love Always to All Living!~Raaven Vicki Weston <westonvj wrote: From my experience, heartburn comes from eating too frequently (snacks, or too many meals) and drinking fluid with meals.
