Hi there. I've never posted on here before.. been quite lurker. I'm

29.. Mommy of 2 little ones and very interested in herbal medicine. I

practice Reiki myself and look forward to learning more.

I'm wondering if anyone can give me some info on ulcers. I was

diagnosed with an ulcer due to H. Pylori bacteria back in Nov/Dec. I

took the antibiotics ect that was prescribed. Everything was great for

a little while but I'm waking up with tummy pain again and a great deal

of nausea. Any thoughts on what I can be taking to help my body take

care of this without going back on some acid reducers of some sort?

Thank you very much.

Tammy

Mastic Gum will kill the H Pylori bacteria. Other things you can take to help heal and soothe are DGL waffers (Licorice), Slippery Elm, and Aloe Vera. Take care of it now before it goes way over the top like mine did.Tammy <lightdancer514 wrote: Hi there. I've never posted on here before.. been quite lurker. I'm 29.. Hi Tammy~I'm pretty new here myself, but I have had ulcer problems my whole life (Literally since I was a child.) I have taken everything from prescription xantac to Prilosec... all of which works but only for a little while, and then it stops, unless you up the dose. What helped for me was a few things. First, laying off ALL dairy... which was hard for me because I was RAISED on cheese! I come from the Dairy State of Wisconsin, where cheese and sausages are the main course of all too many meals! LOL Fortunately, since I have changed that part of my diet greatly, I don't even crave the stuff anymore. Starchy foods are bad for an ulcer too. Second, I found that Aloe Vera Juice (about 4oz a day... good with any juice, I prefer some squeezed lemon and water) is very soothing and in the long run helps very much. You can get a bottle of it for quite cheap at just about any health food store. And last but CERTAINLY not least, meditation!!! Time for

just me... whether it be burning candles, sitting in the garden for a bit, listening to my favorite soothing music, or just sitting in silence and putting life into a positive perspective. Centering myself from every day stresses probably helps more than anything!! I have always been the kind of person who carries my stresses of life on a physical level, and the meditation has become a must, for the survival of my stomach.I know I'm new to all this, but this particular topic I am a PRO at! LOL Hope it helps some! :o)Love Always to All Living,~~RaavenTammy <lightdancer514 wrote: I'm wondering if anyone can give me some info on ulcers. I was diagnosed with an ulcer due to H. Hi Raaven.

Thank you very much for the reply. I only developed this ulcer in

the last year or so. It feels a little scary to me for some reason.

I've always been a very healthy person. But, it's great to hear from

others who have ulcers.. eases some concerns.

I had cut out the coffee for a long time and the greasy foods. Eased

back to smaller more frequent meals and that seemed to help. It got

better and then I slowly went back into my old habits. A flare up in

stress added itself to the mix and voila!

Metaphysically speaking I can learn alot from this and meditation

helps go into the root. Silly as it may sound to some, but pure

heart love focused on my body helps!

I'm going to the doctor today again but feel so confused even. I

know he will prescribe more medication but I'm not sure if it will do

any good other then make the pharmaceutical companies richer. I'm

sure there are some simple herbal remedies that will do just as

well. I'm pretty much at the point now where I don't even trust my

family doctor anymore because he's so quick to prescribe things and

knows nothing at all about herbal remedies.

I will try the dairy route. And, the aloe vera. I will go back to

the simple organic soups and fruit and veggies for a while. I'm also

wondering if perhaps some sort of clease is in order?

Thank you. :)

There was a small study done awhile back, I think I read about it in

one of Andy Weil's earlier books, where broccoli was shown to be

more effective at killing H. Pylori bacteria than the antibiotics.

I had 3 ulcers, two which ate through my stomach; one was leaking blood and stomach acid into my pancreas. I used a combination of Mastic Gum, Olive Leaf Extract, DGL (Licorice) Extract, and Propolis to kill the H. Pylori bacteria. DGL Extract, Slippery Elm, Marshmellow and Aloe Vera help to sooth the esophagus and stomach. L-Glutamine helps with buidling healthy cells. Those meds you mentioned, Prevacid, Nexium, and Prilosec stop the stomach from producing the acid that helps to digest food and kill the H. Pylori bacteria, so by taking them you open yourself up to the bacterial infection. Someone mentioned a study recently done about broccoli killing the H. Pylori bacteria; the study did show that it retarded their growth but did not kill them off. There is a study in the New England Journal of Medicine that shows that Mastic Gum kills this bacteria, even those that have become immune to antibiotics. Also, make the cabbage water listed in the file section here to get plenty of probiotics, that's the good bacteria that helps overcome the bad bacteria.Tammy <lightdancer514 wrote: Hi Raaven. Yeah, it is scary when things start going wrong, and even the Doctors can't seem to fix it! I recently went through a terrible, drawn out process that led to a loss of insurance right before a scheduled surgery, and now looking back, I'm glad it went down that way! Since then, it made me rethink my own responsibilities to myself and my body... But it's tough! I read somewhere recently that if we can use will power and discipline to change habits for 3 months, it will become natural from then on. I still haven't made it to that 3 month point yet without having to start over!!! But I keep tryin :)Laying off the coffee and fried foods DOES help... and I also found that if you're absolutely craving it, drink teas

and fry your food with just a tad of olive oil on the stovetop instead! The breading isn't needed, and with the right seasoning (I LOVE garlic!!!) it will still give the fix, AND you'll feel better about it after! :) Lots of foods really end up taking no longer to prepare this way than making a box of Kraft mac & cheese! And it's fun to expirament and find new and better ways to make food tase irresistable! Good luck with the Dr today... and be careful of those meds. Just my opinion, but they just seem to take us down a long road of dead ends and more meds! I'm sure a cleanse would never hurt... but I'm too new with my knowledge on those. I did a 5 day cleanse for kidney problems recently, and it did wonders! Lots of love, and don't give up! :o) ~RaavenTammy <lightdancer514 wrote: Hi Raaven. I take fresh papaya. A friend of mine who worked offshore in S. America acquired an ulcer and not near a hospital the ship's doc put him on papaya. For 3 months he ate nothing but papayas. At 86 yo he told me he never had an ulcer again.

I use it as a regular fruit in my diet. About 4 oz. But the canned seems not to be the best.

Regards.

There are 2 herbs that I've frequently come across in my studies that are used for ulcers. They are Slippery Elm Bark http://www.healthy.net/scr/article.asp?ID=1460 and

Comfrey Root (you may want to do extensive research on comfrey root before you use it). http://www.womenfitness.net/herbs/comfrey.htm

This site has loads of info. Take a peek. Barb http://www.naturaleyecare.com/diseases.asp?d_num=60
