Sounds like no one wants to deal with him,s o figure just let him sleep hislife away, I mean yeah dementcia is awful, but they do have some life left in them, getthat man off of the sedation, my goodness. SOrry I am talking from experiance my MIL has dementcia, and I have finally gottem her on ginko biloba, she has high cholestrol, diabeties and high blood pressure as well as over weight. she wasn't over weigtw hen she moved into the retirment center though. I am not happy with how they "take care of" her. She is also a very stubborn woman. so if you find anything that helps with the stubborn part, let me know. LOl my daughter and husband could use a dose too. LOL. As far as on the sly, could you mix anythingint o a drink that he would drink anyway, like a juice drink that he wouldn't taste the herb or whatever? Also try maybe just fresh scents in teh air if he doesn't mind the air smelling of things, We just got a rainbow vac and used eucalptus oil at nighta nd that helped our kids getting over a cold pretty fast with out putting vicks on their chest. we use cin and peppermint when we vac and I don't getthe head aches Like i use to. masybe do a searh on what different aromatherapty's can do? just suggestions. well I better get going. errands await. LOL

Dealing with this awful disease is not easy at all. Myhusband is in total denial of this and I have become her daughter more than he her son. if you nee dtotalkor vent feel free to talk tome off list. We are her co-conservators and it makes life very interesting, esp with a 17m and 4 year old and my own parents live with us. Somehow the calendar says I will be 28 on Sunday but I think the numbers were switched. but I know others have it much worse.

Anyway I hope you find something that helps.

[lists] Herbal Remedies - Alzheimer's Disease/Dementia (Long)

Very soon, my DD and I will be moving in with mygrandfather (86) who has been diagnosed withAlzheimer's Disease and dementia. He is currentlytaking several different medications, Aricept for theAD, Celexa (sp?), and something else--to do what Iconsider sedation. He also takes aspirin for hisheart issues (quadruple bypass 12 years ago). For the past two years, my aunt and her family havetaken over the run of his house, and anytime he showsany independent thinking, they up his dose of thesedative drugs. My aunt is moving to Florida and whenshe leaves I will take over as his caregiver. I am very much into the natural way of healing withoutresorting to allopathic medicine, and I would like toimplement some of this healing in my grandfather'sdaily life. I am not sure how to do this, though. Grandpa is a very stubborn man, so I don't think thatthere is any way I could get him to do a cleanse ofany kind. He suffers from constipation, and I knowhow to sneak ground up flax seeds and acidophilus intohis food to help his gut. What I don't know is ifthere is anything else I could do to help all of hisconditions *that can be done on the sly*. I would like to see him wean from the sedativemedicines into something herbal, but not sure whatthat would be. I would like to try to stall (orreverse) his Alzheimer's/dementia, but don't know whattools to use. I am not entirely convinced he hasAlzheimer's, I do believe he has some senility, though.I went for a walk today and stopped by his house withDD to see him. He was asleep. His caregiver told mehe had been sleeping since 12:30pm and it was 3:30pm. Now, seriously, would a three hour nap (he sleptlonger than that, though) after only being awake forthree hours be necessary if he was not being sedatedall the time? I don't think this is right, and I wanthim to live the rest of his years awake! I alsobelieve that the "episodes" he has had in the past aredue to his medications, as all of them causedepression, bowel issues, psychotic tendencies, paranoia, etc.Any thoughts? I would greatly appreciate them!Samantha
