Hi, my name is Serena and I just joined the group. I am searching for

an herbal remedy that would help someone with severe social anxiety.

Actually its for my daughter who is 3.5 yrs old so it needs to be

safe. My daughter is not just shy like some preschoolers, she is so

anxious I think she may have selective mutism. She will not speak to

anyone she does not know very well.

Someone on the selective mutism board said that they were using

something called Bach Flower essences. But I researched some of the

plants used in these essences and some were poisonous. That scared me

away from it.

Do any of you have any suggestions? We are getting my daughter

behavioral therapy but it could take a long, long time and I would

like to help her sooner if I could.

TIA.

Serena

Hello Serena,

As you may see in the files on our website, we do not promote, nor endorse,

any psychiatric or psychology " treatment " ; in fact are strong opponents of

such " treatment " . I therefore would like to suggest to you to immediately

withdraw your daughter from any such therapy!!

A stable and loving home and family/parents will help your daughter a lot

more than any such " therapy " . Give her as much a calm environment as you can

manage, and very importantly: you as parents MUST stop being anxious about

her!!! Easier said than done I'm sure, but children are just soooo connected

to their parents' emotions (even if you do not show them) that ANY anxiety

on your part will be communicated to your daughter! So, start with handling

your own anxiety or any other emotions you might have on the subject, so

that you become calm about it, and then I am sure you will see an

improvement in your daughter! And just letting a child be, allowing her to

handle things in her own space and time, can do remarkable things! As an

example, my son (8) once had an upset when he was nearly 4, and refused to

leave the house for ANYTHING. I just gave him the time and space, and

realised he would snap out of it in his own good time, when he was ready. He

did - he stuck to the house for 3 months - couldn't even get him out for

shopping or play or nothing! After 3 months, he decided he wanted to come

outside, and that was the end of that!

Aside from that, on a physical level, TOTAL NUTRITION! Proper nutrition is

vital to anyone being able to handle any emotional problem! Along with that,

as much as you can manage, start changing her over to a 100% organic diet,

and no sugar, plenty of exercise, and plenty of fresh air/sunshine (if there

is any LOL).

Hope this helps.

love
