[lists] Herbal Remedies - Childbirth

I have used Raspberry Tea with all my pregnancies except one (at whichtime I became a fervent proponent of it) to great effect. I labor withlittle pain.My last labor I used an acupressure technique called EFTwww.emofree.com that was AMAZING in how much it helped me relax.. Iliterally had no pain at all. Use it now for a lot of things. Butrasperry leaf tea is my number one standby with pregnancy ... (havehad 7 babies so far). I've also used blue and black cohosh to stimulate a labor that is'getting lazy'.. anyone else done that?

Blue and Black cohosh is a tried and true way to get labor going, or remind it that "Hey, we are having a baby here! Need your help a bit..." but as I understand it is very potent and should be used with caution. For another natural way, you can also take evening primrose oil and place it in the vagina as close to the cervix as possible, or take the caplets daily. This is also good for woman who are in metopause or have hormones that really put them in a tizzy, as it will help to balance you out. Hi I'm kind of new here but thought you might be interested in this site it has heaps of info on herbs for use in pregnancy & childbirth.Including this info linking blue cohosh with stroke in the new born.

http://www.gentlebirth.org/archives/blueCohosh.html

I have used the homeopathic form of the cohosh ( collophyllum) in past pregnancies to help tone the uterus and stimulate contractions it was very helpful and pulsatilla is also good when labour slows down. I am researching the use of herbs in facilitating labour at the moment as I am due in 4 weeks & I have a history of slow to establish labours so any information would be greatly received.

thanks

Lynn

Lynn, Congratulations! You may want to check this out more as it would be a smart idea, it may or may not be for you. Honest though, I was a week "over" according to my midwife, though I felt fine and baby was strong, however my doula gave me evening primrose oil, 3-4 caplets at night to deposit into the vagina, I did this for a week along with squats and it seemed to help my labor get started. I am also going to email you off list some recipes for food. Good Luck!
