Guest guest
Hello! I'd like to give a brief background to where I come from, before asking my specific questions (And I have many! lol I am an anxious and fairly new student to herbal remedies, and my knowledge is limited): I have spent most of my life living like an " Average American " , eating way too much " bad foods " and not nearly enough " good foods " and my idea of 'exercise' was a night out with friends and maybe an occasional game of basketball. Addicted to ephedrine and caffeine, I have been overweight for most of my adult life, I still struggle to quit smoking, I live in a " middle-class " type neighborhood apartment in a very large city, where most of us feel suffocated most of the time, and until recently I worked like a drone in a monotonous job in the home improvement industry. Last October, I fell very ill. Pains in my abdomen overwhelmed me, and I waited until I could take it no more before going to a hospital. As it turned out, I had a stone in my right kidney, as well as multiple ovarian cysts (I have a history of cysts and they have landed me in the ER before, but usually they just rupture and go away). Now, mind you, until about a year prior, I had never had medical insurance. I never quite believed in it, and most of my life is was not available through my jobs anyway. But this job had all the " perks " . So I did what the ER told me to do and followed up with a physician... thus began the " jumping through hoops. " She had me go for MORE scans just to confirm what the hospital already said. I was also told that I may have endometriosis, however since the loss of my insurance I haven't been able to find out any more about this diagnosis. Around the same time, my father (in-law) was in a terrible car accident. He was plowed over by a drunk driver travelling the WRONG way down the freeway one early Monday morning en-route to work. He was MediVac'd to UofM hospital and did not get out until about a month ago, with one less leg, and still up in the air as to whether he'll be able to keep the other leg, OR his right arm. Because of all this, my job talked me into taking a leave of absence under the FMLA act. My wife and I had to do everything we could for the parents through all of the following months... taking care of their home, legal matters and insurance matters, all the while I am being pumped with drug after drug for MY issues, antibiotics and pain medicines, and for some reason the Dr even talked me into taking Advair (I don't even remember why now... thank God I stopped taking it after a day or two) And I was told that the stone in my kidney (3mm in diameter but 6mm long) would eventually pass. The pain was growing stronger, and nothing was getting any better. In fact, I would say it was getting worse. Then they told me the stone was stuck in my ureter, but they still kept me on drug after drug (I was on 2 different antibiotics, plus Vicoprofen AND Ultram) which kept me from working. FINALLY in December the Dr set me up to see a Urologist to get surgery set up to put in a stint and make the stone pass with some kind of shock therapy (Liptrosomethingorother...lol). This was set up for the end of January, but unfortunately my job let me go the week before, and my insurance was dropped. They tried to say it was because of " Job Abandonment " . That's a whole different story, but I had all my documentation to prove otherwise and I recently won the case for unemployment. Didn't want to file for it, but a lawyer friend talked me into it because of how they did me in the whole situation. I like to refer to this whole situation as my " curse of the insurance card " ! ANYWAY... I was now sitting on a rapidly declining income, no more pain pills (Which I am sure by then I was somewhat addicted to) and no insurance. So I started studying natural remedies and such. I read Trudeau's book... which was great, if you're looking to get all worked up about everything, and even better if you can afford to keep giving the guy money... but didn't really HELP me. I finally found a website that gave a plan for a 5 day " Kidney Cleanse " fasting plan, with or without having to buy their suggested product. It entailed a balance of all organic fruit and veggie juicing throughout the day, with lots of teas. I also went to my health food store and got herbal supplements to aid in the cleanse. Because of all this, I also decided this would be the best time to quit smoking, for good. I decided to keep some of the nicotine gum around, just to fall back on rather than falling back on a cigarette. The fast was a bit costly, because I went 100% organic, bought the " good water " and everything, but by the end of the week I felt AWESOME and was smoke free, and had even shed a few pounds. This was about 2 months ago. Feeling good, and maintaining much of the healthier foods (As much as I could afford anyway) I also JUST started my own business and now am doing what I always wanted to do, selling my art. So everything had seemed to happen for a reason, and life was looking good. But getting the business started has been costly too, and the wife and I are looking at not making money for another month or two, and we're getting very close to hitting bottom financially. It gets worse again. Last week, I got what seemed to be a bladder infection. Out of nowhere, it just hit me so bad I could barely walk or sleep. I am at least partially convinced that it's because over the last month I've started smoking again, and as the " cash flow " has been depleating, I have gone back to eating the " not so good but much cheaper " foods. I am also feeling terribly fatigued all the time again. Well... I kicked up the water and lemon juice, and it seemed to help with the bladder, but for the last 4 days I have had increasing pain in my kidney. I can actually FEEL my kidney, I could draw you it's size and location on my skin... lol. I've had a hard time getting my work done (NOT good for a new business to not even be able to produce... lol) and As fatigued as I am, I can barely sleep. I would do the fast again, but just don't have the money to. As you can see, I am 100% a product of the American Way. Please don't think I am making excuses, I KNOW I am responsible for my body. But I am at your mercy. My problem is this: I want to get away from all medications, because I can FEEL the things they do to my body. But I am currently in so much pain that it gets awfully tempting to just start swallowing pills. I struggle, because I live with two other people (My wife and sister) who absolutely refuse to change their diets, and because of this my wife has all but flat out told me we can't afford all " MY 'special' foods " . And, I guess first and foremost, I am worried about my Kidney. Is it now damaged? Did the stone ever even pass? What the heck can I do now? I read in a book recently that drinking tea with Silver Birch Leaf is supposed to help break up kidney stones. But I can't find this anywhere, and again, my financial state is limited. I feel like a needle in a hay stack of people who refuse to live, or LET me live, they way we SHOULD. Well... there's my soap box, and I am really excited I found this board... I hope to learn and improve my life, as well as make some new friends I spent half the day reading the files sent to me when I joined, as well as previous posts, and doc and everyone seem very knowledgeable and kind. As for me... well I KNOW I have a lot to learn, but I WANT to!!! I'm desperate to! Can we start with the Kidney problems? It's killin' me... Guest guest
for immediate relief (if this current issue is kidney stones), Doc has a Kidney Stone Dissolve tea and tincture: you can check the recipes in the files, or buy ready made (see links). If it's an infection, I would take Total Tonic and Echinacea. Sounds like you're on the right track though, with your thinking! Keep going!! The files in the group's website are filled with fabulous data and herbal recipes! Guest guest
Thanks for the advice... I have already found myself lost for hours in the files! I am absolutely loving this board! I also checked out Doc's stuff. Unfortunately, for the time being I am kind of on a tight budget, and need to keep it to a minimum, so if I can get the herbs locally and make it up myself, that's what I'll have to do for now. Haven't found anything for a Kidney Tea recipe yet though... But I'll keep lookin, and finding some really cool stuff in the mean time! (Unless anyone has a recipe for this they could send me)So you also mentioned Echenacea? Is there a "best" way to ingest it? I am still afraid it is an infection, because of the terrible and constant pain (Though I have still resisted taking any pain medication! ) but I am also afraid that the kidney stone is still there as well. Is there anything I can do myself that would actually break up or "move along" a stuck stone? If the stone is in fact still there, then it's been there a LONG time; and if I end up back in the hospital (Which my wife has already expressed she will DRAG me there if it gets any worse... LOL... she is a bit more stubborn to let go of our "Educated habits" than I am), they will want to do the surgery that was originally supposed to take place before I lost my job... which I do NOT want to do.Thanks again for everything! I am SO the adoring student of you all... lol )Love to All Living,~Raaven"Lisa de Haas@Wanadoo" <lisa wrote: for immediate relief (if this current issue is kidney stones), Doc has a Kidney Stone Dissolve tea and tincture: you can check the recipes in the files, or buy ready made (see links). Guest guest
I was just doing a brief scan of information available online about kidney stones. One of the things that was mentioned at nearly every site was to drink water - LOTS of water. It's supposed to help with preventing kidney stones as well as passing a stone that's already there. Since drinking water is relatively benign, it might be a good first step. If you have an infection, drinking water is still a good first step. I would recommend drinking at LEAST a gallon a day. If you are overweight, you may need more than that. A gallon a day isn't so bad if you break it down into smaller portions. For example, you might drink 10 ounces every hour for 13 hours out of the day. Or only 5 ounces every 30 minutes. When I want to hyper-hydrate, I set a timer to remind me. I pour out my portion for that hour or half-hour, and if it's not gone by the time the timer goes off, I just down it. Then I reset the time and pour the next portion. Hope this helps, Terri herbal remedies , Emily Joy Lanier <raavenart wrote: > > Thanks for the advice... I have already found myself lost for hours in the files! I am absolutely loving this board! Guest guest
Kidney tea recipe is in the second file, Look under Kidney Stone Dissolve tea+tincture - that's the recipe so that you can make it yourself. Yes, I wouldn't have surgery for that either! Echinacea will jump start your immune system. Doc's Echinacea tincture is taken ingested. You can also buy it at health shops, but I haven't found a good one in the shops in the UK. Doc says you can test whether it is a good one by putting some in your mouth an leaving it there a minute or so: if your mouth turns numb, it's a good one. If not, it's not a good one! love Lisa - Emily Joy Lanier herbal remedies Tuesday, April 11, 2006 7:02 AM Re:Herbal Remedies - New member with hope for help (Kidney issues) Haven't found anything for a Kidney Tea recipe yet though... Guest guest
Yes, water DOES help a lot... I have probably been drinking closer to two or three gallons a day ever since I was first diagnosed in October last year. Using some organic lemons juiced with some cayenne makes it enjoyable rather than a task, too! All I ever do is drink... lol Throughout the day it helps, but once I sleep for the night, I wake up in terrible pain, and it takes a few hours at the start of my day to drink enough water to start feeling better again. Thanks so much! I'm going to try the Kidney tea, and am thinking I'll have to do the kidney cleanse again. Does anyone know anything about 'silver birch leaf'? I am reading this amazing book called "Earth Wisdom" by a UK author named Glennie Kindred (VERY helpful with finding one's inner self, which seems to be an awesome start for a beginner wanting to change their life such as myself) and mentions that this leaf, made into a tea, is supposed to help with the breakdown of kidney stones. But at least here in the states, I can't seem to find it even in the herbalist's stores. Any input? Thanks again :)Love to All Living,~Raavennever_again_ <never_again_ wrote: I was just doing a brief scan of information available online about kidney stones.
