Wanting to Sleep all the time

I would really like to know what is wrong with me as

all I want to do is sleep all the time. I also suffer

from headaches, sinusitis, hayfever, menorrhagia,

treated anaemia, treated hypothyroidism, IBS, slightly

overweight, bad toenails (like the fungus issue) and

just generally not wanting to do things. I eat three

meals a day, I don't smoke and have an occassional

glass of wine. I drink tea and coffee and plenty of

water, and that is another thing, I wake up a few

times in the night wanting to drink water or go to the

toilet.

 

Any views would help and as we are approaching the

cold season here (autumn) I don't fancy doing a

cleansing diet as I work 7 hour days, 4 days a week

with hardly a break and toilet stops can be an issue

as well as any other symptoms of toxin removals.

Taking time off is also an issue as I work as a casual

and don't get paid for it, so something slow in

treatment is better than fast treatment.

Yesterday, I was at my chiropractor and he related to me something very similar. He's very athletic and eats very well, but a couple of months ago, he found himself almost unable to function. He'd have to sleep two hours in the middle of the day, just to drag around the rest of the day.

 

He went to physician, had all the normal blood work, even had a brain scan, still nothing, said it was probably chronic fatigue. He said no way and decided to take himself to an allergist.

 

Turns out he's allergic to wheat! The wheat allergy caused his extreme fatigue. I thought the symptoms were GI, but he said the allergist said no, there can be all kinds of symptoms that are missed or just categorized as Chronic Fatigue.

diet and milk (but not milk products like yoghurt and

cheese), and find that the symptoms have lessen in the

hayfever department but was wondering whether it is

gluten as well as the wheat? I know gluten is in

other products and was wondering whether I should

avoid those too. I am not " gluten intolerant " in

medical testing standards but have read that you can

be gluten allergic? Could that be a possibility that

I need to not only avoid wheat but also other grains

that contain gluten and if so which ones?

Peta,

 

What you are thinking sounds like a strong possiblility to me. My chiropractor friend said that he now uses strictly rice products. He said he found a site that carries everything from pasta to pizza dough to cookies. He didn't say anything about dairy though. But you know, everyone is different and instincts are usually correct.

 

He also said that he did a detox cleanse after the diagnosis, and now that you say it, yes he did say gluten allergy as well. My fault I didn't say that earlier, I thought it was all the same.

 

Wow Peta, sounds like you are really on the right track. I guess the best way to proceed would be to just start eliminating the things you think are contributing.

 

I have to say, this has all made me really think about myself, as over the last couple of years, I feel tired most of the time. I always thought it was pre-menopausal hormones, but now I wonder. May have to do a bit eliminating myself.

That is interesting as I have taken wheat out of mydiet and milk (but not milk products like yoghurt andcheese), and find that the symptoms have lessen in thehayfever department but was wondering whether it isgluten as well as the wheat? I've switched to plain yogurt also, and minimize wheat. But mainly it's the yeast/wheat products that bother my gut. Supposedly, I'm not gluten intolerant either, and I can eat corn, some oatmeal.

But IBS is something special - I think mainly a wheat allergy.

Peta...if you are worried about the milk allergy, consider getting

rid of cheese and yogurt as well for 7 days and see how you feel. I

am a recovering cheesaholic (though I have never liked milk), and I

recently found out I am allergic to casein, which is a milk protein

that is highly concentrated in cheese. I have been dairy free for

about 6 weeks and I am surviving allergy season here (so far) with

much better results (and no meds). Just a thought. Amy

Aloha Peta,

I have been dealing with these kinds of symptoms for a long time and

finally saw my family's homeopathic doctor. She informed me I have

a bacterial infection that is causing me not to abosrb trace

minerals, folic acid and B vitamins as well as a deficency in EFA.

I am now on a regemine to reduce my bacterial infection of oregon

grap root extract and a few other things. This might not be the

case for you (ie the bacterial infection) but it does sound like you

have a sensitivity to some sort of food which is causing you to not

absorb the necessary nutrients. My suggestion would be to minimize

your diet, eating only very basic foods such as cooked vegetables,

rice, no fat, no acidity, no wheat, oats are okay, white meat

chicken and fish, and then slowly add items to your diet, paying

attention to what your body is telling you. Then you can get an

indicator of what may be causing your issues. What may work for one

person won't necessarily work for you, as you are unique. Keeping a

food diary and noting when you feel badly may help as well. Good

Sounds like you have candida. Getting your diet under control is the first thing. If you want to email me off line I will bore you with the details.

My daughter has Celiac Disease. We found out about it only because

her father was diagnosed with it and they told us that all of our

children needed to be tested. Of the three, she's the only one that

has it.

 

When she was diagnosed, she had no GI symptoms at all. But she'd

dragged around for years with little energy. Now, although she still

has no GI symptoms, she can always tell when she's accidentally

gotten something with gluten in it because she's exhausted the next

day.
