Guest guest
Hi all, Does anyone have a remedy for tummy bugs? My 17 month-old has caught a " bug " and is vomiting. She wants to breastfeed, but it all comes back up, she can't even hold down water. Would rubbing some sort of anti-parasite/bacterial essential oil on her belly be helpful? Other ideas? Thanks Jewel

Guest guest
Poor baby, As she is so young, I would try to stay away from most anti-parasitic remedies. Peppermint, fennel, & chamomile are all good, gentle tummy settlers. Marshmallow is good too. Garlic may help as it is antibacterial, but it can also generate gas. Try making a weak tea for her, you can drink it full strength too & it will come through in your milk. If you have essential oils, you can make a tummy rub blend with oils of any of the above herbs, plus lavender or ginger, again making sure it isn't too strong. Hope this helps Nicole herbal remedies , " jeweltoo2002 " <oho wrote: > > Hi all, > Does anyone have a remedy for tummy bugs? My 17 month-old has > caught a " bug " and is vomiting. Guest guest
You might try some ginger tea. If you can get her to drink it, it will help settle her stomach. herbal remedies , " jeweltoo2002 " <oho wrote: > > Hi all, > Does anyone have a remedy for tummy bugs? Guest guest
I have a friend who just got her daughter out of the hospital after dealing with what she thought was a 'tummy bug too...it wound up being RotaVirus and it caused seizures in the little girl, aged 15mos. Watch for a high fever and try to get her to stay hydrated. I would give the baby colloidal silver because she probably needs a natural antibiotic... I'll be praying for you and her... Guest guest
This might sound crazy, but it has worked for me and others that I've told...a woman from Honduras shared this trick with me when I was really sick, and I would feel bad if I didn't share it: Squeeze a fresh lime or two into a glass and then have the baby drink it. I don't know if the lime creates an alkaline reaction in the tummy or kills the bug or what, but it works. I've heard this is also why they serve lime with beer in Mexico - to kill the bacteria on the bottle. I don't know how true that is. I hope your little girl feels better soon. jill P.S. I have a little boy who just turned 18 months yesterday! Still nursing, also. -- In herbal remedies , " jeweltoo2002 " <oho wrote: > > Hi all, > Does anyone have a remedy for tummy bugs? Guest guest
Thanks to all who replied with suggestions for my baby. Gabriele - Thanks, but as we don't eat dairy, yoghurt is not an option for us. Lisa, Nicole & never_again_ - I ended up rubbing coconut oil with a couple of drops of oregano oil on her belly. I gave her cooled peppermint tea with honey & sea salt. Don't know if it helped her at all. 3 of my older children have the bug now. I might give the ginger a go - I don't have any aloe. Jill - I don't have any limes, but I have lemons, so I might try lemon juice on them all. I have been taking 2 drops of oregano oil (in gelatin capsules) 3 times a day for the last week, to try to avoid the bug. I haven't got sick yet, so maybe it's working. I tried to convince the older children to take it, but they declined. Thanks Jewel
Guest guest
Hi Jewel, Normally I'd use Total Tonic for any bug issues. If you cannot get them to swallow this either in a drink or in a food, then the next best thing is to use a slice of (organic) garlic dipped in Olive Oil as a suppository (slice a clove of garlic lengthwise). Works wonders!!! love Lisa de Haas Senior Moderator - " jeweltoo2002 " <oho <herbal remedies > Thursday, April 06, 2006 11:39 PM Herbal Remedies - Re: Tummy Bug > Thanks to all who replied with suggestions for my baby. > > Gabriele - Thanks, but as we don't eat dairy, yoghurt is not an option > for us. Works wonders!!! Thanks, I'll keep that in mind for next time. I hadn't had a chance to look into the formulas in the files, but I looked today and with most of them I get a " document not found " message. I'll try again later. How much of the Total Tonic would be a good amout to take? I assume that you only take it when something is " going around " as a preventative, or when you have caught the something. My eldest child & I were sick last night, and dh is feeling unwell today - I'm so glad that we didn't get the tummy bug all at the same time, this week has been a challenge to say the least. Guest guest
Hi Jewel, I use TT only when I feel the need, but I think Doc takes it daily. The maintenance adult dose is 1-2 dropperfuls 3 x per day, which you can increase as the need arises to handle an acute problem. The child dose is per the " 150 rule " of dosages. love Lisa > > Thanks, I'll keep that in mind for next time.
