I know someone who had breast cancer and had the breast and nodes removed under her arm 7 years ago and now her whole arm and hand is grossly swollen since. No medical treatment has seemed to work. Any idea on what she can do?Thanks,LG

Many thanks for and to this wonderful group!

I just met someone with this same affliction. According to this lady, it happened to her because nobody informed her that if they take the lymph nodes from under the arm, you are not supposed to do heavy lifting (over 5 lbs) with that arm. I do not remember if it is for 1 year or for life.

This gal packed and moved her house a month after surgery when the swelling happened. This has been a couple of years already. They said all they can do for her is give her one of those compression sleeves. She doesn't wear it because the swelling comes back as soon as she takes it off. I don't know if this applies to your friend. Hopefully you will find better information and help on this subject. If you do, please share it.
