Has anyone used DGL? Deglycyrrhizinated Licorice? Has it worked for you? What have you used it for?

I know that Licorice root has been used to help reduce inflammation in asthmatics. Would this DGL help that at all? It says all of glycyrrhizinic and glycyrrhetinic acids which have been associated with an increase in blood pressure removed.

Any comments?

DGL is mainly for the adrenal glands - it works as an adaptogen helping the glands to work better after chronic stress - so all the things associated with chronic stress such as inflammation and raised blood pressure may respond

**********It says it supports a healthy stomach lining and intestinal formula on the bottle. Does DGL have multiple uses or do I have the wrong product? What am I actually taking? The brand name is Planetary Formulas and I normally don't buy this mfg.

I am currently using it for digestive aid. Find it quite helpful. Not nearly as much heartburn and that "full" feeling. I am about in the midpoint of doing a full body cleanse and needed some help with my digestive problem. Barb

DGL is available (in Uk anyway) in supplement form - I will try to find time to look up suppliers for you - I'm sure it will be produced in US as well

DESCRIPTION

Deglycyrrhizinated licorice, commonly abbreviated DGL, is an extract of the root of true licorice, Glycyrrhiza glabra, which has significantly reduced mineralocorticoid activity. Licorice has a number of medicinal properties, including peptic ulcer healing, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and antioxidant activities. Glycyrrhizinic acid and its metabolite, glycyrrhetinic acid, have mineralocorticoid-like, as well as testosterone-reducing, activities. The use of licorice for the management of peptic ulcer disease is associated with hypertension, water retension and hypokalemia. The removal of most of the glycyrrhizinic and glyceyrrhetinic acids yields a product without these undesirable effects.

Hi Doc, The natural form of this is Licorice. DGL is licorice with the chemical removed that forces the body to retain water which raises blood pressure in folks like me."Dr. Ian Shillington" <DocShillington wrote: On this list, we try to make things for ourselves. So one could make a licorce root tincture for both gastric and other inflammation issues? Any idea on how one would do that? Can you just buy a licorce root? I am so new to all of this. My new MD/ naturopath said licorce root is good for asthmatics.

Many natural food stores carry bulk herbs. I get dried Licorice Root

for my tinctures. It isn't expensive at all.

6 ounces of dried Licorice Root

750 ml Everclear

750 ml Spring Water

Mix together in a large glass jar with a lid on it. Let the mixture sit

for about 14 days, shaking the jar everday. After the 14 days,

refrigerate the mixture for a few hours. (This will slow the alcohol

evaporation once you start pouring the mixture in to bottles.) Strain

the mixture and pour in to brown glass bottles.
