Guest guest
Could you please share with the rest of us how and what you are doing to make face creams? Thank you LisaB! - Gina Kopera herbal remedies Sunday, February 19, 2006 7:46 AM Re: Herbal Remedies - Face Creams I just learned from Cindy Jones on this group how to make face creams and WOW !what a difference, when you make it yourself. To make it creamy you need e-wax and steric acid, you add that to butter creams and oils and melt it down together and there you go, what a difference in moisturizer. After you use your own you will never want anything else. Ginapam couchman <freya_freya2000 wrote: Hi everyone I would be gratful for some advice I am 56 with dry skin and living in the uk. Guest guest
FACE CREAM 12 oz distilled water (you can make an herbal tea out of this too) 1/2 oz e wax 1 1/4 oz steric acid 1/4tsp veg glycerin (optional) 2 3/4 oz oil, mix as you choose Heat liquids and oil in separate pot add e wax, steric acid to the oils when heat reaches 110-120 dont go higher Pour liquid into a bowl Put bowl in cool water and stir, I used a stick blender. Stir until thick Add fragrance and stir again Make thicker cream add harder oils such as: cocoa butter, shea butter, mango butter etc. Thinner cream use lighter oils Sweet almond, jojoba, avocado etc. I personally mix all of them together that I had: light and heavy oils, honey and cayenne and WOW! What a difference in my skin. I guess it is like anything the more processed it is, the harder it is on you. Here is a couple of site that Cindy recommended to me for purchasing product: www.the-sage.com (good for the beginner)www.todieforsoap.com (more advanced ingredients)www.starvillesoapworks.com (beginner ingredients)www.lavenderlane.com (not sure if they are open)www.essentialwholesale.com (may have a larger minimum) Have FUN, I know I am. Guest guest
I have a different type recipe I make that is all natural but a bit more time intensive. Make an infused oil of chamomile, lavender and rose petals. To do this you pack a pint jar full of the herbs and pour oil over it. (You can mix and match whichever herbs you like. I add rosemary and calendula to mine so it works on eczema) I mix olive oil, coconut oil and sweet almond oil (for the Vit. E) but you can use anything you would like. This sits in a warm sunny spot for a few weeks at my house. If you want to heat the oils or speed the process in a warm oven you can but I prefer the results that occur when I take my time. Strain the oil through cheesecloth and heat in a small pan. Thicken it up with natural beeswax. I have a local source, now but the stuff that JoAnns sells works just fine. You can add some essential oils if you would like. I like to put carrot seed oil in because it is a nice source of Vit. A which is good for the skin. Guest guest
I pulled this old message up because i'm going to try to make my own moisturizer...if I use this recipe, it later says that Gina added honey and cayenne...does anyone know how much of each to add? Or if Gina herself is on here can you give me the amounts? Thank you so much! It is fun to experiment but remember to make notes on all of your formulas. If you come up with the perfect blend, the exact measurements are handy for the next batch. Test it on yourself or a forgiving family member-just in case! Start with a basic formula. An online search- handmade creams/lotion recipes/formulas. Many suppliers will offer free formulas on their websites. Salves/ointments don't have water in the ingredients. They are easy to make and have a longer shelf life. Lotions are watered down creams. Sanitize your work area, utensils and containers! Mold and bacteria will thrive in anything made with water unless you use a preservative- but then it's not natural. Make small amounts to prevent spoilage and to keep it relatively safe. Cindy PS a stick blender is a great tool for making lotions
