Guest guest
Hi, I have developed head/facial pain that feels tooth related (similar to pain from a previous abscessed tooth that was handled by a root canal). Went to a holistic dentist who sent me to a root-canal specialist to see if he could save two abscessed teeth. The specialist (endodontist) said there was nothing wrong with those teeth. He said there was infection in another tooth. So I am looking for another dentist in S. Calif. to check my teeth again. Any suggestions? In the meantime, does anyone have any suggestions for alleviating the situation (head pain, infection in jaw, mercury in teeth, previous root canals that may be infected)? Any ideas on material to study on the subject? :-) Doug Hogg Los Angeles
Guest guest
Hi Doug, The FIRST thing I would do is schedule an appointment with a massage therapist who specializes in Trigger Point therapy, especially around the head/face/neck. Trigger Points are like little knots in muscles, but they can't always be felt; instead, they will refer pain to other areas. Trigger Points have been known to mimic LOTS of ailments. For example, a trigger point in a particular neck muscle will mimic an ear infection. Sometimes, trigger points will even mimic a heart attack, complete with the numbness on one side and everything. Trigger points are responsible for most of the migraines that exists. And, to come back to our original issue, certain trigger points in the face/jaw muscles can refer pain, even to a single tooth, mimicking a toothache. This is particularly true for teeth that still have pain even after a root canal has been done on them. Root canals remove the nerves completely, so all pain should stop. If it doesn't, your problem was a trigger point, and not an abscess. Many needless (and expensive) root canals are performed every year, only for the pain to persist. So, before going to a dentist, see if massage/TMJ/Neuromuscular therapy (also done by an MT) helps you. It shouldn't take more than a few sessions. If that doesn't solve the problem, THEN see your dentist, and make sure he does panaramic x-rays, ks they give the dentist a better picture of what's going on in your mouth. Also, the little Tennant Biomodulator can utilize a dental attachment that has been known to sort of " removes the need for a dentist " , (in many situations), if you know what I mean... And this comes from ppl with soft problematic teeth! Worth a little research.
