There's a wealth of material on the topic

you're asking about. We've got a little

bit of it in our next book on Daoist

alchemy and sexual culture. There are

lots of materials in Chinese about the

history of wine and its uses in medicine,

magic, etc.

I don't know of much of this Chinese

material that has been translated into

English yet. Perhaps others on the list

do.

One interesting etymological fact is

the presence of the character for wine

in the character for medicine. This

suggests that wine may have been a

common ingredient in medicine from

a relatively early time.

The meaning of the word wine is still

a confusion for many non-Chinese,

especially when they're given their

first glass of Chinese wine.

I certainly can't claim to be an expert in this, but I used the best

vodka I could buy (I think it was Stolychnya or Absolut) to extract my

beautiful Kentucky American ginseng roots that I got from Pickerell's

ginseng farm, and it worked wonderfully. The resultant liquor was fragrant

with ginseng, and the decoction made from the roots later on had a faint

vodka smell and very potent properties. I kept the roots about 2 years in

the vodka and then started using them.

I have everclear, which is 95% alcohol. should I dilute it to 70% or will it

work

even better at full strength. I assume there is an optimum %. more is not

alwys better, right?

70 is about 75% of 95. So I think 3 parts everclear and one part distilled

water will do it. is that right?

Federal law states that you can purchase a set amount as a 'sample' for

product development, etc. without having a license.

I believe it's five gallons per year, but I could be wrong on that.

The red tape is incredible. If you have purchased a " sample " I have been

told you are not supposed to resell the products made with it; it is

supposedly only for product development, not for products for resale.

If you get a license, you have to track every drop that you buy...what

products it was used in, who they were sold to, etc.

We found it far more red tape than we had interest in keeping up with.

Hello guys. I was just wondering. A couple of days a month and group of friends of mine and get together go out to dinner and have a few drinks. I was wondering IF your going to drink alcohol what is the best, or in other words, does the least damage? I usually have beer, but is there something better to switch to?

It's my understanding that wine is probably the best alcohol to drink - specifically red wine. Red wine has saponins in it which come from the waxy skin of the grapes. You can also benefit from saponins by drink grape juice, or it can also be found in olive oil or soybeans. Also in red wine is resveratol (an antioxidant component). These two components in red wine help lower inflammation and promote heart health by binding to cholesterol & helping fight absorbtion of the cholersterol in the blood. A little red wine is supposed to be good for you. It aids in

digestion. I know of one orchard out here that does not add sugar to

ferment. Because I don't drink, and do not care for wine, I have never

tried it so have no idea if it's good tasting or not.
