I love this group! I have SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) along with my fibro, not a good mixture, but this year I made my own Lemon Balm tincture and faithfully take it every day. I have to tell you that I do notice a difference in my moods and overall feeling of wellbeing.

Does anyone make their own tinctures and if so, what ones do you make and what do you use them for.

Lemon Balm (Melissa Officinalis) growns great here in the Pine Barrens of NJ - lucky for me the deer do not like it - I use the leaves fresh and dried for tea (also add fresh wild strawberry leaves for a high vitamin C content) and it makes a wonderful foot soak in the summer - delightful mixed with mints!

Any one from Jersey?

Thanks for the suggestions on the warm/cold alternating shower. In the summer - actually late spring and on till Oct. I live in my pool. The cold water helps me not to ache so much!

Hi Katherine: Yes, I make some of my own tinctures. I have the giggles about what kinds, hold tight. I take equal parts of wacky tobacky, better know as marijuana put this in a large jar and pour in cane alcohol which is 96% and let this sit for at least 10 days in a dark dry place, usually a cupboard. I give this tincture to my clients that have arthritis and they RUB it on the affected areas only for external use. My next tincture is for external use only for bruises, bruised muscles, torn muscles or for aches and pains. I chop up peyote roots place them in a jar add camphor and Anica (palo) this Anica is used for only external purposes and then pour alcohol over all the ingredients and let stand for 10 days. Every few days I will shake the tincture bottles. Do not

get excited about the peyote and the marijauna...I live in Mexico and it grows in the mountains. A friend's gardener picks the herbs. I have had great results from using the peyote tincture. I was in a car accident and the shoulder harness was across my breast and at the time of the impact, need I say more? I thought my breast was going to have to be removed, it was sooooooooooo painful. I rubbed the peyote tincture on my breast for a day and a half and no more pain. I have many more recipes that I will share with you later. Take care of yourself, Megan 1. Re: making your own tinctiures

I make many of them as well as ointments , lotions and so forth. Astragalus, echinachiea, rosemary, fenugreek...the list goes on .I also make tooth powder , which we use instead of toothpaste. I take fresh sage, roast it in a slow oven with salt and baking powder for about an hour, then crush it in a mortar and pastle and add 1/3 the volume myrrh. To use , put a little in your palm, dampen the toothbrush , roll it in the powder and brush. If you choose to do this, pick one herb , research it, and get your feet wet. I use either vodka or glycerine to make mine.

Megan, it must be wonderful to have all

plants accessible to you. It strikes me as slightly insane that some

plants are ILLEGAL in this country!! (I did hear that they are bringing

more hemp farms to my hometown, as it's legal for industrial usage

only.)

Enjoy your freedom to use what plants you wish. Looking forward to your

recipes.
