Guest guest
My mother who is 53 years old has just been diagnosed with osteoporosis. She recently had a benign tumor removed from her thyroid after blood tests revealed elevated calcium levels and kidney disfunction. She was also sent in for a bone density scan which resulted in this diagnosis. She is scared to death as am I. My request is for any insight into natural treatment for osteoporosis. I do not want them putting her on boniva or other big pharma treatments until I know there are alternatives. She does take lythium and tofranil for bipolar disorder and has since her 20s. Any help is greatly appreciated!!! Loving this group and so glad I found it. Love, Health, and Peace to all. Namaste' Sheree
Guest guest
The fact that your mother has excess calcium suggests a magnesium deficiency. She needs to take magnesium taurate in amounts at least 400 mg/day. Also, the thyroid issue is a sign of an iodine deficiency. Take Iodoral (Lugol's solution in pill form) at 13 mg/day initially. If no severe detox symptoms occur, then ramp up to 50 mg/day for full body sufficiency. After that, return to 13 mg/day. When taking iodine, it is also advisable to take selenium, in the amount of 200 mcg/day. You can easily achieve this by eating two Brazil nuts per day. Guest guest
I was diagnosed with osteopenia (the beginning of osteoporosis) and signed up for a strength training exercise class. After only nine months my bone density scan has returned to normal. I don't know if it is too late for strength training with the osteoporosis dx, but it certainly cannot hurt. Good luck to your mom.
