Today's Red Alert is being urgently dispatched as a result of an incident

of a Halogen Light Bulb Bursting in the home of one of our Members.

 

While these light bulbs do not contain Mercury the flying shards of hot

glass are a hazard and we are especially concerned for children and babies.

The Halogen bulb was Made in China - comes in a purple and white box and

is distributed by Globe Electric Company in Quebec, Canada. It was a 60

watt - an R16 130 volt and had just been placed in the light fixture minutes

before it exploded. The occupants in the kitchen narrowly escaped injury.

Please check your homes for this product and protect your family by

making inquiries to the Consumer Product Safety arm of Health Canada. You

may also want to return these bulbs to place of purchase until such time that

your family's safety can be guaranteed in the presence of such bulbs.

While some Halogen bulbs are encased in quartz casing to prevent burst -

please be aware that NOT ALL are manufactured for safety in this way.
