The Rare Commodity in Congress and the Person

Who Steps up for Health Freedom

The NHF wishes it had more U.S. Congressional representatives that

understood the importance of health freedom to their constituents, but sadly we

do

not at this point. All 500 plus representatives do receive the

Federation's quarterly magazine, Health Freedom News, so the only excuse for

not

caring about our issues is not ignorance but that they actually do not care.

If you feel that your Congressional representative is fighting for a

health-freedom issue or issues, please let us know. Our lobbyist may then

contact

that individual and work with him or her to better understand the issues

that are so important to our members and others. We would like to hear

from you on this topic.

One individual in Congress definitely is looking out for your individual

freedom and health freedom, and that is Representative Ron Paul. The NHF

awarded him our Health Freedom Hero award in 2008 for a good reason, it was

his endless work on the behalf of health-freedom activists everywhere.

It is Our Turn to Back Ron Paul’s Legislation, So Please See the

Legislation Below that He has Recently Submitted to Congress:

H.R. 3394 Freedom of Health Speech Act To amend the Federal Trade

Commission Act concerning the burden of proof in false advertising in cases

involving dietary supplements and dietary ingredients.

Cosmetic Act concerning claims about the effects of foods and dietary

H.R. 778 Authorizing Interstate Traffic of Unpasteurized Milk and Milk

Products This Bill would repeal current Federal legislation prohibiting raw

milk/products for human consumption in interstate commerce. It would allow

consumers to obtain raw milk products from other States without violating

Federal law. At present, in the U.S., you may consume raw milk in all

States but may only sell it in half of the States.

MERCURY FILLINGS – THE FDA EDGES CLOSER TO THE TRUTH!

We have long known of the dangers of mercury fillings – euphemistically

called dental amalgam fillings – and avoided them in our teeth, or if there,

had them removed at the earliest instant. Yet, despite the overwhelming

evidence of the dangerous toxic mercury and mercury vapors emitted by these

amalgam fillings into the mouths and then bodies of consumers, the Food and

Drug Administration (FDA) has refused to treat them as the danger they are,

despite significant consumer and even political pressure over the years.

So it was with some surprise that the FDA at last took action to issue a

long-overdue Guidance on the subject. (See

_http://www.fda.gov/downloads/MedicalDevices/DeviceRegulationandGuidance/Guidanc\

eDocuments/ucm073330.pdf_

eDocuments/ucm073330.pdf) ) Entitled “Class II Special Controls Guidance

Document: Dental Amalgam, Mercury, and Amalgam Alloy,†it was published on

July 28, 2009, and intended for the industry as well as FDA staff.

In it, the FDA has reclassified dental amalgam from Class I (no or few

controls) to Class II (special controls) and is recommending that such

amalgams carry a warning that they should not be used on patients who are

allergic

to mercury. The special controls that are imposed on mercury amalgam are

set forth in this Guidance, which replaces a 2002 draft version.

While the Guidance falls short of stating that mercury amalgams are

dangerous and certainly falls short of banning them altogether, it does show

that

the FDA’s position on the issue is edging closer to NHF’s

more-than-50-year-old position that mercury amalgams for teeth are poisonous.

The FDA is

finally catching up with us! It is just highly regrettable that FDA’s

failure has come with a cost, that is, all of the people who have died or been

harmed during those many decades when the FDA has been warned to remove this

product from the market.
