Guest guest
I have been able to improve my memory: I take daily injections of B-12 Methylcobalamin. This is without preservatives and should be used up within 30 days. 0.25 cc/day is recommended but I take .60 cc/day because I always have to throw the bottle away after 30 days. You need a prescription for 1cc syringes and alcohol swabs for the injection. Insist on only Methylobalamin--not the cheap substitute. I get mine from an alternative medicine doctor. B-12 tablets and not well absorbed by the body. I consider B-12 tablets to be useless. In addition I eat blueberries every day. Of course Omega-3 fish oil helps also. I have been on this for 2 years and it really helps
Guest guest
I have definitely had benefits from other types of methylcobalamin. You can get it sublingual and also in drops in distilled water (from Metabolics). But it depends if you stopped producing 'B12 intrinsic factor' in your stomach when you became very deficient and before you started supplementing. According to Adelle Davis conventional wisom (at the time, anyway, the '60's) was that you couldn't start off intrinsic factor again once it had stopped being produced. But she managed it with many patients - feeding them lots of liver, yeast and wheat germ. This stimulates the stomach acid (HCl) as well as Intrinsic factor. Both are essential for the absorbtion of B12 in either food or supplements, through the stomach wall. Sublingual supplements get around this problem by being absorbed directly into the bloodstream under the tongue. Once I bought what I thought was methylcobalamin but on closer examination it only had a little of that type, and many other types of cobalamin. You have to be careful of marketing practices like these. But I know all these things have worked for me because they used to instantly stop the twitching in my legs at night and my over-hot feeling. Some were better than others. There was an autism site where everyone was raving about a B12 nasal spray. Can't find the page I was looking at all those years ago but here's a link which tells you about it, anyway. www.autism.com/ari/editorials/ed_b12.htm Interestingly, I read there: " Blood B12 levels are high-normal in almost all children documented to be responders. Though there may be a high level in the blood, it is in an oxidized form that cannot be reduced and recycled. " Perhaps it was the same situation for me, because the doctor told me there was no indication of shortage of B12 in myself. Alcohol and smoking use up B12. I think this role of B12 - that of detoxification - is why people are often short of B12 in this society. There are so many toxins about, you are almost bound to be short of it, especially if vegetarian. People don't realise this when they embark on a vegetarian lifestyle - you can't easily be natural in an unnatural environment. Add to that the fact that it is water-soluble, sensitive to cooking and light, and destroyed by oral contraceptives, sleeping pills, stress, and excess bacteria or parasites in the digestive tract, and that a sluggish liver can be a cause of depletion....and you can see why some studies suggested (in the '90's, in the US) that half of people over 60 suffered from B12 deficiency, which 'mimics' alzheimer's. Finally, on the topic of improving memory - there have been a couple of news items recently which every newspaper in Britain has covered - one of them highlighting that turmeric dissolves away the plaque in the brains of alzheimer sufferers (backed up by the fact that East Asians, who eat a lot of curries, rarely suffer from this complaint), and the other highlighting that caffeine prevents alzheimer's.
