Guest guest
Hi All, New to the group and looking for advice. My mom is 69, has type two diabetes (and Addisons and no thyroid))and point blank is refusing to take her cholesterol meds her doctor has her on, because she feels over medicated and she also feels her quality of life has improved since dropping them. As her daughter who is dealing with a chronic illness via many alternative paths, I say good for her! And I am glad she basically told her docs up yours. Now however I have done some reading about how even if you take care of yourself (which she does pretty well, though things are complicated by the other conditions) with diabetes, Diabetes sets up your cholesterol patterns to go backwards, raising " bad " cholesterol levels and lower good ones. Aside from diet and exercise which she does pretty well, does anyone have any suggestions as to what she take take herbally that will help keep her cholesterol in balance? Oh and if anyone could show me studies/scientific proof that drinking lab sweeteners is bad for cholesterol, addisons, or thyroid it would be the joy of my life as her big vice is drinking tons of diet soda. Thanks, Andrea
Guest guest
Hi Andrea: I think that your Mother is right and you are confusing two negative effects of poor diet (and lack of exercise). First off, your Mother would probably benefit greatly by stopping the statins Statins are a bad idea at any age, but as you reach 70 and above they are acting counter to what is actually a good indicator of longevity. That is, it has been proven that those of us who live the longest have the highest cholesterol level and they are proportional... after the age age of 80. Your Mom may not be 80 yet, but the scale is sliding. Higher cholesterol levels protect against cancer and, it is common knowledge, the brain is mostly comprised of cholesterol so it protects against dementia. Forget about the good and bad, as you age, it is good. For younger people, extremely high cholesterol levels are an indication of a dietary imbalance. However, taking statins to fix the problem is counter intuitive. This would be the same as cutting the wire to your check engine light on your car. The problem is still there, but you can't see the warning. If she insists on drinking tons of diet soda, that is her choice. Does it directly cause Type II diabetes? Does it matter? One thing for sure, it promotes illness. But if she were to switch to green tea, fresh juices, and water... and were willing to pursue wellness, what should she be eating? No processed foods, Less grains of any kind, Natural fats, especially those from non-hatchery grown fish, unroasted nuts and coconut oil, Grass fed beef, Lamb, unprocessed dairy products, and lots of green veggies. This is not asking for much, but then she may not want to be well. You say that Diabetes causes negative cholesterol patterns. I say that poor eating habits cause both. If you want rational facts, read the Weston Price Foundation site as it relates to cholesterol and follow their references. They are not funded by the drug industry and tell it like it is. Also, Dr. Mercola's site is a good source. Type II diabetes can be cured.. and quickly. As you say, diet and exercise are key. There are supplements that would help, like cinnulin, but without basic changes in these poor habits, the effects will manifest. Regards, Jim >Hi All, >New to the group and looking for advice. Guest guest
I am 66, have diabetes, and recently stopped taking statins. Here's how I did it: I eat salmon, turkey and chicken. No meat. I include garlic, red peppers, olives, broccoli every day. I have lost 25 pounds in 4 months with SlimSignals from lef.org. I have increased the amount of omega-3 oils. I have included niacin (to raise HDL) I eat blackberries, blueberries, pomegranite seeds every day. I eat nuts as snacks. I walk 1 to 2 miles/day. My LDL is now down to 76 (my goal is 70). A side benefit of eliminating statins is that my memory has improved. I will never go back on statins. , " bioniclymie " <bioniclymie wrote: > > Hi All, > > New to the group and looking for advice. Guest guest
Andrea, all of the hullabaloo about cholesterol serves only one purpose: to increase the pharmaceutical industry's profits. It has been shown that there is no correlation between longevity and cholesterol levels. As for diet soda, the main problem is the aspartame it contains, which is a known neurotoxin. For an herbal approach to diabetes, I recommend following the instructions found by searching for diabetes on the site www.herbs2000.com. Guest guest
IMPRESSIVE! Thanks for sharing! I am on Simvastatin. I hate it. I feel groggy & sluggish. I started taking coq10 supplements & that helped. I am looking to get off statins asap. You are doing great! Again, thanks for sharing! , " larrylawrence2 " <arcticsurfer wrote: > > I am 66, have diabetes, and recently stopped taking statins. > Here's how I did it: > I eat salmon, turkey and chicken.
