A year-long study revealed that more than two million American hospitalized patients suffered a serious adverse drug reactions, and over 100,000 of them died as a result. Genetics + Environmental Chemical Soup = Autism? Three studies have now found a link between children's exposure to pesticides and autism. Children who live in homes with vinyl floors, which can emit phthalate chemicals, are more likely to have autism. Children whose mothers smoked were twice as likely to have autism. Conflict of Interest in Conventional Medicine Practice Guidelines A doctors' group is recommending that medical professional associations adopt stricter conflict of interest guidelines, and that associations refuse general budget support from the industry. This comes on the heels of the American College of Cardiology's annual conference where drug and medical device manufacturers paid $6 million to display their products-with $3 million of that funding the conference's educational program. Food Safety and the FDA According to the editors of Scientific American, " the security of our food supply is at risk-in ways more noxious than anyone had feared. " The article refers to the FDA's action in 2008 reversing the ban on the non-therapeutic use of antibiotics in farm animals.
